High Torque and High Performance
Porter-Cable’s PC18ID 18-volt cordless impact driver provides 1,600 inch-pounds of torque. But even though it is a high performance tool, it doesn’t deliver kickback when being used. Its size isn’t indicative of the power, either, as it only measures 6-1/2 inches in length, allowing it to be used in constricted or tight areas that would restrict the usage of bigger impact drivers. Also, the impact driver’s variable speed trigger assures that there’s a high degree of control over a wide variety of uses.

A Host of Helpful Features
With a serious and sturdy cold-forged impact block, Porter-Cable’s PC18ID 18-volt cordless impact driver provides reliable durability. Its integrated LED light makes it easier to work in low light or dim areas, and its ability to run on either NiCd or lithium ion batteries provides flexibility and versatility. It weighs in at only 2.6 pounds, a light weight that reduces user fatigue.

Dimensions and Warranty
Porter-Cable’s PC18ID 18-volt cordless impact driver is 6-1/2 inches in length and weighs 2.6 pounds. The tool comes with a 3-year limited warranty, a 1-year free service contract, and a 90 day money back guarantee.

The purpose of an impact driver is to not injure your wrist while a bolt or screw is being turned. It produces bursts of torque in small time intervals so as to not put much twist on the wrist, like the way a drill does.
This is a good impact driver for light torque applications, but it is not for things like loosening higher torqued bolts on cars. You'll need an air or electric impact wrench for those types of jobs. So don't be confused about it's applications.

I very rarely contribute positive reviews, but I'm having a hard time not ranting and raving about how great this little unit is. I've fallen in love with this little beauty. You just can't beat it for the price. I wanted an impact driver after using a friend's Makita impact driver. I've used cordless drills regularly for over 20 years and was shocked at how much better impact drivers can perform compared to cordless drills. After researching different units/sets, for the same price as one Makita driver/charger set, I was able to purchase whole Li-Ion Porter Cable set & added the impact driver. It's superior performance coupled with the Li-ion batteries (a quantum leap over the Ni-Cads) are a match made in heaven. By paying the extra ~$70 to add this unit to my set, I'll get years more life out of my drill and have on heck of a driver. I use my drill about 80% less than I used to and can driver screws faster and longer with one charge. If you're a contractor, spend the extra cash for a Makita or a Dewalt. If you're an "advanced handyman" with a construction background that does a fair amount of home projects - buy this unit and fall in love with it.

I purchased this product in March as I was in teh process of buying a fixer-upper and knew I could use it, I also purchased the 4 piece lithium-ion combo pack. The tools worked great out of the box, the battery life is great and I have not had any issues withe the other tools. The impact driver seemed to work well until I used it to drive approximately 50 deck screws in. What happened was kind of scary, before even one battery was depleted the driver heated up and peices of it came shooting out of the back vents hitting me in the face. This was the first project I had used this tool on other than random light duty jobs. I am going to attempt to return it as defective with hopes that it was a fluke. I will definitely wear saftey glasses when operating it's replacement!

I never had an impact driver before. I find it an invaluable tool. I got the 4 piece 18v set from Porter Cable a while back and have been adding to it ever since. Fantasic products; better than my friend's Ryobi +1 set and better than my previous Craftsman. I am totally sold on Porter Cable. Unfortunately, those batteries don't fit black and decker.

I can't say enough about this great little tool. Impact drivers are the "wave of the future" for driving screws, I think. Half the size of a regular cordless and twice as powerful, what more can you ask for? I've used it for hanging cabinets and driven 2 1/2" cabinets screws into solid oak with only a small pilot hole on one side just to get the screw started, with no head stripping. Hell, this thing has enough juice to actually snap drywall screws from the torque. The impact driving rather than just power power makes stripped heads a thing of the past.

There aren't really any 18v impact drivers out there for a decent price under $200, so I bought the PC 18v 4 piece set with a drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw, and light for $130, the this bare tool for $60 from Lowes. Spent less than $200 and I have a great impact driver, usable drill, and what I consider to be two "backup" saws for small tasks. Perfect. No regrets.

I've had this for nearly a year and it has never let me down. I am a frame to finish carpenter so this thing has been tested and past. This will drive T30 Bolts with ease. I have used both the Milwaukee and Mikita drivers and this is up there with them at half the price. The only bad thing is that this will eat a NCID battery fast when it's being used heavily, but that's battery not the driver.

I didn't know what I was missing until I got this tool. Very useful, doesn't drain the LX or EX battery too quickly. Farily small but not too small. Nice grip, and weight is pretty well balanced (better with smaller battery).

Although I have used many types and brands of drills in the past, this is my first impact driver. I bought a PC combo pack but did not have this tool. so bought this as the 18V Li-ion batteries are fully compatible with this tool. I am very impressed with the performance of this little tool. It has the power and the punch to drive rather large screws and bolts into thick and dense materials. Overall I think it is great value for the money. So here is the summary on the pros and cons of this tool.

Pros: Compact, light weight, feels ergonomic and well balanced. Takes on the 18V Li-ion batteries of other new PC family of cordless tools. Has more than adequate power to drive even 6"x3/8" lag-bolts into dense wood without predrilling. I have not tried this on concrete but feel this can do the job. I have many other tools from PC and they are very well made so expect this to last a long time.

Cons: The speed control is a bit unpredictable since it seems like either very slow or very fast and nothing in-between. This is the only reason I gave a 4*. I suspect this has to do with the torque sensor which triggers the impact mechanism but this is not a big problem. I am not sure of the durability of this tool as this is generally used for heavy duty driving. I thought this tool would be proudly "Made in America" but alas it is not but is a well made nevertheless.
