  • Has a pivoting shoe for complex cuts.

Variable Trigger for Precision Cuts
The PC18RS features a variable-speed trigger that delivers a cut speed of up to 3,000 strokes per minute (SPM) for fast, aggressive cuts with a wide array of materials. Because of its small size, the reciprocating saw can be maneuvered in tight spaces for greater versatility when compared with larger, unwieldy saws. The saw also features a pivoting shoe that offers added control in complex cuts.

Smart, Efficient Design
A patented tool-free blade-changing system allows you to quickly remove and change blades. No more wrestling with blades and looking for small bits and keys--simply change and go. The PC18RS comes with an oversized rubber boot and grip for comfort and safety.

Convenient Cordless Operation
Thanks to the cordless design, you can work on the job site safely and efficiently. And as part of the Porter-Cable Tradesman cordless line of tools, the PC18RS reciprocating saw uses an 18-volt battery that can be used interchangeably between other tools in the line. You can choose from either a nickel-cadmium or lithium-ion battery. Both types of batteries, and their respective chargers, are sold separately.

Since its inception in a garage in Syracuse, New York in 1906, Porter-Cable has earned its place as one of the most trusted names in power tools today. As a subsidiary of Black & Decker, and sister company of Delta Machinery, Porter-Cable designs, manufactures and distributes a wide range of electric and cordless power tools for the professional woodworking, commercial/residential construction, plumbing and electrical markets.

At the forefront of power-tool innovation, Porter-Cable introduced the first 12-volt cordless drill in 1989, and has since been awarded with many industry accolades and awards, including Time's "Top Ten Products of the Year," Popular Science's "Best of What's New," and Popular Mechanics' "Design and Engineering Award." In 1996, the Smithsonian Institution honored Porter-Cable's history of innovation by establishing the museum's first collection of archived materials from a power tool company, and in 1999 the company received one of the highest manufacturing honors when Industry Week selected Porter-Cable as one of the "Top 10 Manufacturing Plants in the United States."

I bought this saw to trim laurel and other brush in some areas where we hunt deer and it's impossible to walk through. I used it to prune all my fruit trees in addition to some laurel trimming. I have three batteries for it, which is enough to cut for a couple hours or more. The saw cuts quickly and with the short blade it comes with it will go through limbs up to 4" thick easily. I would recommend it for anyone growing a small number of fruit trees or who has to trim brush up to 4 or 5" thick. Works well every time, unlike gas powered saws.

I bought this Porter-Cable cordless reciprocating saw to help control the bamboo in my yard. The culms get as large as three inches in diameter and must be cut flush with the ground or they leave dangerous stubs. With a 12" blade this saw cuts down into the dirt and swiftly saws through the woody trunks of the 30' tall bamboo culms. I have found that in soft soil I can even stick the blade directly into the ground and saw the bamboo roots crossing across flower beds without even digging down to expose the roots.

I also bought the bundle with a battery charger and two batteries. I strongly recommend you do the same. The bundle costs about the same as the saw, charger and one battery separately.

I have several reciprocating saws with cords. This saw seems to be just as powerful. A battery charge lasts longer than I can last using the saw. It is much easier than getting out a hundred foot extension cord and using a corded saw.

The saw is substantial and heavily and well built. If you are looking for a delicate little saw for light work this is not it. This is a powerful machine.

Annually we buy a live Christmas tree and I have the task of trimming the trunk/stub in preparation for the tree stand. I have a corded reciprocating saw that would eventually hem and haw its way through the moist trunk/stub. Last year I upgraded the blade and the task was a little easier, but not by much. As I considered this year's Christmas tree, I had the idea of trying the Porter-Cable PC18RS since I have had excellent fortunes with their other 18-volt cordless tools. I bought the PC18RS along with the DEWALT DW4856 6-Piece Metal/Woodcutting Reciprocating Saw Blade Set.

The saw is very compact, so much so that when I held it next to my corded saw I wondered if I made a good choice. As a result of its compact size, the PC18RS is easier to hold. Its strokes per minute are faster than my corded saw, but the stroke length is shorter than the competing Dewalt cordless reciprocating saw. I put on my safety glasses and gloves and started on the Christmas tree trunk/stub. I cut through the trunk/stub faster than I ever did with the corded saw. I could not cut straight through, I had to cut around the trunk, but the saw did it quickly. For the record, I have the 18-Volt NiCd battery, which provided more than sufficient power for the 45 - 50 seconds that it took me cut the 4.5 - 5 inch diameter trunk/stub. In the past, the corded reciprocating saw would take an average of 5 minutes. I have to add the caveat that I was not using the Dewalt blades in the past. I believe that the Porter-Cable saw worked better because of its higher stroke-per-minute rate, more powerful electric motor (the saw did not sound like it was bogging down) and the Dewalt blades.

Almost as powerful as a corded saw. A lot more powerful than I expected. It's also nice that the new batteries fit.

Works well with same battery as my other tools. Have only used it a few times but it works well and seems powerful enough.

Received a Porter Cable 18V reciprocating saw for Christmas. Just used it for the first time to trim small limbs from a tree. I used the blade which came with it which said "metal" (not the ideal blade but only one I had and wanted to do the job before too much sap started flowing). Problem is, the blade wiggles in the mount. There doesn't seem any danger of it slipping out. But the far tip of it wiggles about 1/2 inch up and down. It seems to pivot on the post inside the mount. Wondering if anyone else has this issue. Could it be intentionally designed this way, or do I have a bad mount (blade clamp) or blade? The blade has the hole and the thin lower 1/8 inch tip that extends about 1/4 inch further into the mount. The blade alone can pivot while the receiving clamp remains still.
