I got the PCX136MS about 18 months ago. After assembly everything worked well... until now. When I tried to lower the stand for storage the locking mechanism would not release. The Porter Cable tech that I talked to by phone said I can release the mechanism by getting someone to pry the release manually with a screwdriver (after taking off the black cover) while I push the activating lever and lift on the handle. It did release, but when I raised the stand into the operating height again I had the same trouble... couldn't get the stand to lower. When I called the local service center the guy told me they would fix it, but would charge me for labor time and parts. I think they would stand behind their product and fix the darn thing under their three year warranty. I'm from the old school. Take care of your tools: Keep them clean & in top shape. Use the right tools for the right job. In this case, I guess, it wasn't enough.

I like this stand. After use on a large project, I find this to be a really good tool. I like the ability to fold and move the saw around, and set it up in an instant. I mounted a Dewalt 716 double compound miter saw on this stand. The stand is well made, strong and very useful. I also use free-standing roller supports for longer stock. I read the Bosch stand reviews, and it appears to be similar to the Porter-Cable, but quite a bit more costly. I do not know if the Bosch is better, but the PC is really useful, and has no real negative points that I have found.

I considered the Dewalt, Trojan and others, but the Porter-Cable seemed to be a better choice, and is very price competitive with less convenient stands. If you have the space to store the saw on the folded, hand truck like setup, you can wheel the saw to the work and set it up in seconds, and be ready to saw like crazy.

I recommend this stand.

I have been very pleased with this stand. It assembled relatively easily. It would have been easier if I followed the directions to the letter - a recurring theme for me. I have had no problems closing the stand for moving/storage, or opening for use. I have a Skil 10" compound miter saw mounted and the fit was easy and is snug. I rarely need the extendable supports, but when used they worked well and were very handy.

I have very limited shop space, and my miter saw is a bit heavy and unwieldy, so hauling it in and out of its storage area was a pain in the neck. I looked at a lot of alternatives, and had buyers remorse immediately after the purchase as I was sure I should have either paid more to get good quality, or paid less and live with lesser quality. However, once I put it together and tested it out, I have not had a second thought. For me it was a excellent combination of utility, quality and price.

We like the the ease of being able to move this stand around, however; they could have improved the design of where the handle is situated, perhaps made it longer so that when you are moving it around, your feet don't keep banging into the bottom portion of the stand. This makes it very awkward and uncomfortable when you have a heavy miter saw mounted to it to move it more than a very short distance. The improvement should be to either lengthen the handle or change the angle of the front portion of the stand that sets on the ground, or both. Other than that, it is well built, and it's great having the lifts on either end to support long pieces of wood when you're cutting. I'd give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the above mentioned problem. Still worth purchasing at that price though.

This stand arrived quickly and although it did require some assembly, it was fairly easy. The stand is perfect for my needs and extremely well built. My Dewalt 12" compound miter saw attached quickly and securely, making it easy to move the saw from place to place. I love that I can fold up the stand and set it in the corner with the saw attached when not in use. This stand is a real back and space saver. Thank you Porter-Cable!

I am very pleased with this stand. I very rarely write a review unless the item wows me. This product did just that. It was easy to put together, strong, heavy, and is the perfect portable platform for my miter saw. I highly recommend this to everyone.

We bought this stand from a local hardware store but had some trouble lowering it. Porter Cable's own website mentioned that the locking mechanism might have to be released with a screwdriver once and awhile - this seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen on their part as it puts the operator underneath the saw! We realized there was a better, easy way to fix the problem and another reviewer here confirmed it (thank you Amazon reviewers!). You just need to switch the position of the cables at the release lever - making it so the cable that leads down to the unlocking mechanism is above the other cable. That ensures the cable will be short enough to fully retract the locks so you can lower it.
Secondly, you need to know that the stand will only lower with a great deal of weight on it. Makes sense as it needs to safely lower a heavy saw but isn't intuitive since you might be lowering the stand for storage without the saw on it. You have to press down pretty hard to lower it without the saw but it works. Hope this helps someone else from the headaches we had before figuring it out!
