Customer Reviews

Easy to put on and works as advertised.

Also, I like the slick feeling it gives when drawing as I can't stand the grinding friction of tablet surfaces.

It's worth it to keep the tablet surface from scratching, etc.

I recently bought a tablet and after seeing how beat up my friend's Wacom tablet was, I decided to buy a protective surface cover. I came across this item on Amazon and thought it would be a great accessory for my Wacom Tablet. The packaging comes with easy instructions on how to apply the surface cover to your tablet. Just make sure you follow them correctly.

However, the only problem I have with this product is that it's a bit smaller than the actual surface of the tablet writing area. If they just made these a couple of centimeters bigger, then it would cover the entire writing surface of the tablet. It gets kind of annoying when you're writing on the surface area of the surface cover and when you go to a certain spot that wasn't completely covered, your tablet pen feels like it' goes down and hits something.

You guys need to make these a few centimeters bigger to cover the entire writing surface area of the tablet!

I recently bought myself a Bamboo Create and I love it. It's the first drawing tablet I've owned that has pressure sensitivity, and it definitely adds a whole new level of ease and control that's impossible without it. The only problem I have with the tablet is that the nibs seem to wear down extremely fast. In 2 days time my first nib had become flat. I swapped it out, turned down the pen pressure in settings (which kind of ruined the whole point of having pressure sensitivity in the first place), and it still wore down in about 2 days. After trying different techniques and settings (that did not work) I had worn down almost all my nibs, so I went to buy more. I expected them to be around $0.50 at the most, so I was shocked and disappointed when I found out they ran about $2.00 a piece.

I started looking online for various ways to reduce nib wear and found many other people having the same problem as me. No advice I found seemed to help at all. I stumbled upon this product while looking around and was intrigued when I read that it reduces nib wear. I figured I'd give it a shot. The product shipped very fast and arrived quickly.

Now, me and surface/screen protectors don't really mix. After several frustrating failed attempts, I'm usually left with residue on the sticky surface and a few bubbles that just won't go away. With this surface protector, I pulled off the tabs, put it on the tablet and I was done. No air bubbles to push out and no difficulties with alignment. It's like magic.

I've been using it for a little over a week and my nib is as round as the day a put it in. NO wear at all. This thing seriously pays for itself. The surface is a bit slippery so it takes a tiny bit to get used to drawing on I found, but once you do it feels great.

I use a Bamboo Create, and it wasn't cheap. I know the surface is meant to feel slightly toothy like real paper, but it grinds down the pen nibs. If you're lucky, you can find nibs for about 3.00 each, but dang, those things are just little plastic sticks and only about 1/4" of them is usable. I'm a traditional media artist, so I'm not about to complain about the cost of replacement nibs. Canvas, brushes, paints, inks, pens, handmade papers, etc... That stuff costs some serious cash. With digital art, all you need is some inexpensive software and some 3.00 pen nibs. A drop in the bucket compared to traditional media.

My main concern was the tablet getting scratched from constant wear and tear from the pen tip. Pressing heavily for thicker lines, erasures, and often seeming to draw in roughly the same spot on the tablet. I wanted this product to protect my tablet, and my investment. It does that in spades. Not only that, but the fresh pen nib I installed has absolutely no wear at all, and I've been using it for a week now. I don't think I'll ever have to buy more nibs in the future, unless I lose the ones I already have (they are so very tiny).

Reading several older reviews, I was skeptical. Many of them said how the cover was just very slightly smaller than the active tablet surface. I waited for awhile, and then I saw newer reviews stating the cover was a bit larger than the active surface. It is certain the manufacturer heeded the comments and made good on their promise for quality. The newer versions are now cut to be larger.

I recommend cleaning your tablet very well and waiting for it to dry. Check carefully for stray hairs or particles on both the tablet and the new surface cover. There is a clear plastic backing, so just peel that off.

The surface protector does a good job at retaining a nice smooth writing surface. The learning curve from actual surface to this film is minimal and it feels fine after a few minutes of use. I haven't used it long enough to tell but judging by feel alone, reduced friction and less general 'scratchiness', I believe this should help reduce nib wear by an appreciable amount. I have not noticed any reduction in pen sensitivity, which is important.

I was, however, torn between docking 1 or 2 stars for aesthetics. In addition to all the great benefits of a nice writing / drawing tablet, most people also love the sleek and elegance of Wacom tablets, especially the Bamboo line. This screen protector takes away much of the elegance and adds a cheap plasticy look to the tablet. The manufacturer designed the film to cover only the active area, which makes sense since all the wear and tear happens there. But for some reason, it extends half an inch outside the active area lengthwise and about a quarter of an inch at the top and bottom. They should have just covered the entire surface of the tablet to reduce the awkwardness of the cover.

The worse aspect of this surface protector, however, is the way it attaches to the surface of the tablet. There is a thin strip of adhesive that runs along all four edges of the protector (underside). So far it does a good job at holding the film down and flat against the surface, but because the film itself is clear, you can actually see the adhesive which looks just awful (like a cheap phone screen protector that bubbles and wrinkles). This also makes installation a little tricky, because you need to peel the protective strip off of these adhesive edges one at a time to expose the adhesive.
