I bought this card to use on my Debian GNU/Linux system specifically to output digital audio using the optical out connection. It works very easily. Linux recognized the card right away, and once I figured out the command line for Mplayer it worked perfectly. It was a bit tough finding the command line because I have onboard audio and now this sound card. Now I can get surround sound (AC3/Dolby Digital or DTS) to my receiver. Price was good and shipping was good enough.

I installed this in my Fedora 15 Linux desktop as a second sound card, in addition to the motherboard sound. The system recognized it on boot, no changes required. Sounds great too. Can't ask for more than that.
