The PSP PQ game - Practical Intelligence Quotient - claims to be an IQ test game that will give you a fully accurate IQ reading once you finish its 100 mini-games.

I've taken many, many IQ tests over the years, including several that were professionally given. There are many different aspects to a traditional IQ test. There are many different facets to "intelligence", and spatial organization is only one of them.

This game tests primarily the logic aspects of intelligence. You stack blocks to form stairs. You push buttons to get doors to open and close. You find your way through a maze. Sometimes you figure out paths that dodge around guards with flashlights. At other times you have to move blocks with laser beams, or block the beams.

All of these puzzles are standard puzzles you'll find in all sorts of other handheld games. In fact, I though the WarioWare twisted games were brilliant as sort of an IQ test, especially because you had to figure out what each mini-game was about without any instruction at all. Compared to twisted, this game is very tame. Little dude walks step by step. He picks up blocks, he puts them down.

Here's my issue with the game. The game has artificial rules that aren't always obvious. You can push blocks off of some walls, but not others - and there's no on screen sign to indicate which is which. You're judged by the moves you make, but sometimes you can't tell an attribute about an item until you touch it. So it's raw chance if you pick up the right or wrong one first.

Also, the little wire-frame graphics are cute, but not always very clear. There were times that I couldn't really tell what the layout was. All you can do is "spin camera left" and "spin camera right".

That being said, it's certainly a cool idea. If someone does play through the 100 mini-games without cheating, and then puts their score online, they get back an IQ reading. Again, I don't feel it can be a "real" full IQ. It's only testing one small aspect of what the brain does. Heck, you can be really smart and have not-great vision and not-great hand coordination. You'd probably test as being not-so-smart as a result. Still, I definitely think game companies should make more games like this, to help us test our brains, build our logic skills and find out how we rank against the rest of the world.

This is an interesting game and I bet it would be great for someone that likes to memorize stuff. I'm not one of those people and I think my head is going to burst from all the memory games! So, remember this review (if you can!) when your head is about to burst from all the memorization. Yiks!

I am admittedly a casual gamer. Meaning I like games that are fun and you don't get stuck on. Games that you can play again and again and feel like you just had a blast. It does not need to be and rearely is a game that you have to play for hours on end to get real enjoyment out of it. With that knowlege, as a casual gamer, this game stinks. Sorry, but it does. I like puzzle games. Intelligence cube on the psone, tetris, bust a move, and most recently polarium have all been my favorites and extremely addicting gems. PQ is not. It is hard as all get out, and you will get stuck for days on one puzzle. A better thinking puzzle game is smart bomb on the psp. THis is hard but it is hard because you have time limits. It is not hard because it is impossble to figure out like PQ. But if you enjoy spending your years figuring out impossible puzzles, this is for you. Hope this helps.

I received this for Christmas. It has a nice clean look to it and the challenges are interesting and varied. I am sure this will be good mental exercise - after I finished playing, I found myself pondering over one of the puzzles thinking of an alternate solution. Good mind candy !!

Ladies and gentleman, I give you.....PQ!

A new and innovative game that pushes the limits of all types of thinking. This game was created by a Psychologist and is more or less a game that is a test in and of itself. You can log your scores in on the web and see how you rank against others in the world. The game itself is very challenging. It's very addictive if you are patient and love to think. I personally love games that are challenging and require strategy and thinking. I think those type games actually have more meaning than shooting up enemies in some mind damaging games that everyone think is the best thing since sliced bread. Challenge yourself with this game and see how smart you are. Some puzzles are easier than others and others are outright difficult. You need to use all areas of thinking in this one. You are given a certain number of moves you can make to reach your goal in each puzzle (or questions as they like to call it). Reach your goal in the least amount of moves and increase your PQ score! Beware, you can only get full value of the puzzles points during your first try. Every time after that gives you less points to receive. Also, you can go negative with amounts of moves remaining which also decreases your score, so plot these out in a timely fashion all while making the correct decisions along the way. This game is for real thinkers only as it will revolutionize the way Psychological tests are given. It receives 5 stars if you are a true thinker and love puzzle games. Go give it a try. Great game for puzzle masters. However, kind of a buzzkill. The game is fun while it lasts but is over too quick. Once the game is over it's no fun anymore. Finished the game in two days. Needs a little more action.
