4.0 out of 5 stars how to formulate and test hypotheses, June 5, 2009
This review is from: The PRACTICE OF SOCIAL RESEARCH IE (Hardcover)
For conducting social research the book is replete with explaining many aspects.

One section delves into concerns about measurement quality, where you learn to distinguish between validity and reliability. While other chapters look into how to design an experiment, and what variables you should try to measure. These are vital to coming up with an experiment that makes sense and does not waste your efforts. At a conceptual level, the hardest issues are maybe here. Where you try to formulate a hypothesis that can be gainfully tested with human subjects.

Speaking of which, another section of the book talks about practical issues of dealing with people in your experiment. Skills need to be developed in writing clear questions that you want them to answer, and in face to face meetings. Though, granted, not all experiments involve those. But enough will that you need that experience.
