COLUMBIA Special Products' 1965 red label LP entitled HOOTENANNY SPECIAL was issued in both mono (216M) and stereo (216S). The Seeger and Clancy/Makem tracks are from live performances.

SIDE ONE NOTES
1.) A Gold Rush anthem sung to the tune of "Camptown Races." 2.) Tribute to a Mississippi River card sharp. 3.) Swingin' and elegant "Bay Blues" has two voices at far left, two at right and a guitar in center. 4.) Straightforward "Michael" pairs off a barry with a tenor at both soundstage extremes. Each gets a solo line or two. 5.) Pete and banjo, with audience participation on choruses. In mono. 6.) Stereo dub singalong of this slavery-era song has Seeger's vocals moving from center to right.

SIDE TWO NOTES
1.) Electrified Stompers segue to neo-Dixieland. Includes a "Woah-ohh" chorus. 2.) Again, Dixieland augmented w/banjo and electric instruments. 3.) Singalong about a highwayman who robs the town's mayor at the point of a blunderbuss. 4.) Another upbeat singalong, this one of a man threatened by his bride's irate father. 5.) Just Bob, guitar and wailing harmonica on this classic that was so nicely covered by Peter, Paul & Mary in 1963. 6.) Sung from the girl's viewpoint, it has her mom a tailor and sweetheart a gambler. A passionate performance, with vocal at far left, guitar at right.
