About the Author

Mimi Renee California native born in Compton and raised in Long Beach California, Mimi Renee recalls that reading and writing has always been her passion. As a young girl she read aloud to herself and others for fun and enjoyed volunteering to stand up to and read out loud in front of class as much as she could. During her sophomore year in high school at David Starr Jordan High in north Long Beach, Mimi learned that she was pregnant and was soon transferred to a continuation school to finish her high school term out at Will Reid continuation, in a special program for pregnant minors. Getting her life on track as a mother and not able to hang out with friends like she had in the past, Mimi reclaimed her passion for reading. She read countless books of various genres in her spare time. A few of her favorite authors are; Sister Souljah, Terry McMillan, Teri Woods, Nikki Turner, Shannon Holmes, Mary B. Morrison and Mary Monroe. Going back to her grass roots of scribed art suddenly Mimi had become inspired to put her passion for writing into action. After writing her first line on the page of her notebook, she was hooked. She has continued to write manuscript after manuscript and enjoying every minute of it.

This is a very talented author. The story was full of drama, well written and truly a good read. I mean, there is nothing I can point out that was not satisfying to the mind. A easy read, no errors or confusion and kept my attention. Great job!

I was hooked from the first chapter with the vivid descriptions until the very end. I finished within 24 hours. I can not wait for the 2nd part of this book so that I can see if Bright will pull through and become a mother and to see if Larry will man up. Great job Mimi tha writer chick!

It was a great read & had a nice storyline to it, but it was way too much 'extra' goin' on! Being from the LBC myself, I've seen this scenario play out first hand. With an editor & some restructure, the book has potential. When I found myself getting into the groove with the book, I'd slowly lose interest because it was too drawn out or it had way too much going on. Don't get me wrong, I liked the vivid details but sometimes it was just too much. If the extras were cut out, there wouldn't really be a need for a second part. Then again, there was so much goin' on that there def was a need for part 2.

Although I did finish this book in less than 4 hrs I don't think it was b/c I truly liked it. I love hood stories, dont get me wrong but I just wondered why Bright had to be so damn trifling and better yet,so damn nasty?? Of course i'm not jumping on the author,I just hated the charachter. I found it interesting that out of 3 young female charachters, the MAIN ONE had to be a young, uneducated, deceitful, and manipulative whore/slut. I didnt understand it b/c her BFF was just as beautiful, smart, and a freak so I was wondering why we have to glorify Bright's hoe ass? Just a question. I'm sure i'll buy more of your books and I hope this isnt too harsh b/c I still support you. I think its important to keep in mind that the majority of your readers are females, are black, and are young. And it's ok for us to read something of urban fictional quality that doesnt "spotlight" the negative suggestions that we as black women face on a daily basis anyway.
I really think Bright was much too young of a charachter to go through that type of shit....AND LIVE....That ass whoopin that Treasure served her should have took that SKANK, O-U-T!!! In that order.

After hearing/reading all the great reviews about this story I just had to read it to see what all the hype was about.I admit, this story was very captivating and at times it was hard for me to put down. The main character Bright was in a world of her own,she is the character you love to hate. Even though I enjoyed this story...The only thing I had a problem with was the way it ended..the whole"and everything faded to black" ending just made me a little upset. Too many loopholes and unanswered questions were left wide open and too many characters fate was left to ponder on. This just can't be it...and I really hope there is a sequel in the works. If not, then I feel as if the author could have given us a decent epilogue so there would be some type of closure. I give it 3.5 stars.

I'm a fan of Mimi's and have read Deadly Decisions 1 & 2 and LOOOOVED them! Which is why I got this book to get the back story on Bright since she intrigued my interest in Deadly Decisions. But this book here......I couldn't really get into it. I started off into it but then when Bright kept being so shady especially to the one person who really had her back(Not trying to give the book away). I mean Bright was shady and triffling for no real reason other than "I love money" but not enough to get a job? I mean just everything wrong she did to people (Larry, Lil Boo, Chrome, & Treasure) was just too much with no real reason to do such things. My heart went out to poor Larry he was really a good dude and just fell in love with the wrong chick. The ONLY person in this book who got what they deserved from Bright was Terrence and everything that happen to Bright she deserved I mean you can't even feel sorry for her because she deserved it all. Now that beat down at the end of the book that Bright received was EVERYTHING lol! Since I 'm a fan of the author I'm willing to read Pretty Bright 2 to see if Bright will change her ways mature and get a JOB to support herself and her babies.

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the drama, I laughed, and cried. I had reservations about this book at first. Buy this book. You will not regret. I hope she releases Part 2 soon. Love it. My husband and kids were very happy when I finished. I was stuck in this book.
