The PRO Scientific PRO-576000-00VSOS-4P is a digital, orbital shaker with programmable variable speed input in increments of 1 rem per minute (rpm), from 20 to 330 rpm, and rpm and elapsed time display, and it works with a 115V power source. A shaker is a device used by researchers, professionals, and hobbyists to provide movement to shake liquids and solutions in lab applications such as cell and tissue culture, hybridization, staining, and detaining gels.

This shaker has a 19 mm (0.75 inch) circular, orbital shaking motion for smooth, uniform, and reproducible mixing and vortexing motion control. Input time increments can be set from 1 minute to 999 minutes, and the device has continuous mode operation to allow for extended experiments and overnight runs. An indicator beeps at the end of the cycle. The unit provides a pulse operation mode, for short processing runs. Time remaining and rpm are displayed on a digital LED screen. The PRO-576000-00VSOS-4P has programmable memory to store up to four programs, including a recall function,. The unit provides quiet operation with a brushless motor. A platform (12 x 14 inches [W x D]) with a removable neoprene rubber pad supports up to 110 pounds.

Shakers are used to mix liquid and solid samples in laboratory vessels such as tubes, vials, beakers, and culture plates in the biochemistry, lab research, microbiology, and pharmacology industries. Shakers have various one- to three-dimensional (3D) motion control abilities, selected for specific process applications. Motion control types include vibrating, orbital, rocking (side to side), reciprocating, and wave movement. Shakers typically set a continuous rpm speed, and can also have adjustable speed control. Shakers can sit on a benchtop, or hang from a rack, a shelf, or a wall (overhead type). Shaker bodies come with various surfaces for vessel placement or attachment. Some have a perforated platform with sides, and can be single- or double-tiered. Other types have a carousel-type attachment that holds individual vessels such as test tubes or vials. Some vessel bodies come with apparatuses such as frames, test tube adapters, tension rollers, and funnel clamps for vessel attachment. Shakers can come in water bath and incubator types. Shakers can have a temperature control sensor for automatic shut-off to prevent overheating. Some shakers come with an incubator body and hood for variable temperature control
