PRS SE CUSTOM 24 25TH ANNIVERSARY
on May 7, 2010
I purchased this guitar from Sweetwater last week. Unlike the reviewer before me, mine was made in Korea. There were none available in Austin at the local guitar stores so the fine pictures of the actual model you were to recieve was a very important benefit to an online purchase. I got the scarlet red with quilted maple top and it is gorgeous, slightly darker than the photo made it look, with perfect bookmatched maple and perfect match veneers. Fit and finish were flawless and bird inlays were perfect. The set-in neck is smooth and action was set per my request of medium low, and it is effortless to play chords or solo riffs. More like a fast Ibenez neck. Intonation was off just a little so I quickly readjusted the saddles.
One feature I soon noticed was that the volumne knob is sensitive and when rolled down, quickly alters the tone from a medium crunch to a smoother cleaner tone. Super valuable when adjusting tone to interface with the overall sound coming from the band. The volumn and tone pots feel very stable and there is no crackle or static at all and have an expensive feel to them, which is a relief on a overseas model. Much better than my Epiphone Les Paul Stan. Plus and as good as my American Fender with S-1 switch.
Pickups have variation from a heavy crunch to a smooth clean and when combined with a Fultone OCD, the sounds really soar and has a awesome overdrive tone from plucky to Santana esk. Will not match the Fender Strat clean tone of my American Mahogony HSS, but when in the brige pickup selection, almost gets there but has a fatter tone than a chimey tone. I love the tones that this axe will produce and can easliy cut through the mix of a band playing either rock or blues. I think it works great for both.
Overall a beautiful guitar with great tone and playablity and variation in it's tonal mix. let's face it, unless your a pro, you could never justify the #2800+ for an American version. Very statisfied with the rig. Played it last night with he band and the guys were very complimentary of the tone and what it added to our tunes.
