What's the point of getting this "outdated" system?,
By
This review is from: PS One & LCD Screen Combo (Video Game)
I always wanted to get this combo deal since I saw how small it is. However, I was pulled back by its price and the fact that I own two PS2(domestic/import) and one universal original PlayStation. Seriously, it will be a total waste of money to get another PSOne. I guess, however, the timing was everything. After I read one of the reviews, which was written wholeheartedly, on the day Sony announced price drop ..., gave me enough push to get this combo deal. Am I satisfied? Yes, definitely. First of all, I would like to tell you how crispy and vibrant the graphic is. I couldn't believe how much of insane quality graphic this small screen was able to squeeze out, you gotta see for yourself to believe. I was totally amazed by the quality, which I didn't expect at all. If I have to point out something negative, it would have to be this 'angle' you have to adjust for maximum viewing. It's like this big projection tv, where you have to sit and look at it from certain angle to avoid strange glare. My other complaint has to be the length of the power cord, it's on bit short side. But trust me, that's a really minor thing, really. How about sound quality? I would have to say it's more than enough to fully enjoy your game in everyway you can think of. Not only it lets you use headphone, but also you can control your volume as well. Of course, it doesn't provide like surround system or dolby digital/dts quality sound, but I don't think any of PSOne games support that anyway (may be except Final Fantasy series with dolby surround). The strange thing is that I began to play all those PSOne games I didn't care to play before. I guess I'm sort of like a selective gamer, who plays games till the end when and only I find them worth playing till the end. However, this thing is so cute and so, so... WONDERFUL, it enchants those "worthless" games more "worthwhile", really, there's nothing like playing "less" worth games right before bed time.. I've been carrying it to library to play during break time or workplace. It's very portable too. Now, to conclude this, I need to answer this one question: was it worth buying another system you own when the only difference is the size and this little screen? My answer is definitely YES and I just don't know why, but playing games on PSOne screen makes tremendous difference, don't know why but that's way it is.

Astonishing...can't be put down,

First of all, before I forget - in reply to the previous question, yes this system does come with an AC power adapter. This system is amazing. You've seen the more recent version of the Playstation one in stores, "wow" you think, "it is pretty small". Wait until you slide this beauty out of the box...it is smaller than you think, and incredibly study. It's white color makes it come off as very clean and non flashy. A great surprise-the system is put together, all you need to do is hook in the AC cord, plug it into the wall, plug in the controller, pop in a game, and you're ready to go literally within 30 seconds of removing it from the box. You press power...and oh my gosh. The screen is brilliant, deep crisp colors...you get pulled into the game without straining your eyes or even realizing you're viewing a smaller screen. Unless you have a flat [$] TV, the picture doesn't compare to television gaming. You won't even want to use the TV anymore, however, that is an option. Bring this with you to hotels for when you're sitting around bored. Get a rechargable battery pack for [$] for full portability and be the envy of everyone on the airplane. I bought the Sony made car adapter for [$] and I know it will come in incredibly handy for long car trips. Now for the sound...in my book, it is almost comparable to small Bose technology. It will just blow you away that such power and depth is coming out of such tiny speakers. Sounds great with headphones as well so you won't disturb others - but in my opinion close to as good without headphones. The screen folds down very snugly and will by no means pop back up, until you pop it up yourself (unless you're being extremely rough with it of course). All this and I am a girl, I'm a girly girl who doesn't get into video games too much. I have an old Nintendo 64 that never gets used, and some game boys that I used to use for after exams in school. Though, for some reason, when I saw this, I had to get it. It's looks alone are so appealing...it's performance however, will blow you away. Get a headphone splitter and extra controller and you and a friend, sibling or family member, can play together...or you can offer a game to your neighbor on the plane. This compact console will EASILY fit in your carryon, with no problem at all. No need to bring this AND an audio CD walkman-the Playstation will play your CDs through the headphones or speakers itself. Now how cool will it be when they make Playstation 2 really tiny, and you can watch DVDs on the screen AND play games. Some inexpensive trial games I've bought (all you gamers are going to think I have the worst taste) are: -Tekken 3-This is the best one and I think a lot of people will agree with me...it's hard to put the PS down, especially with this game. A really creative fighting game. One other good thing about this console is that while the bottom gets warm, it doesn't get scorching hot in the least bit. It's a beauty, and if I can get into it, anyone can. It makes a great gift to someone else, or for yourself. Don't just get the Playstation and not the screen because you will be completely missing out on some of the best parts about it. If you're thinking about getting one, go get it, reward yourself and splurge a little. My rating is undoubtedly a solid five.

Best Semi-Portable System,

Great combo, light, easy to use. The screen made all those bad PlayStation graphics disappear! Wonderful color and resolution, just not the best when viewed from all angles. I played games such as Quake II, Final Fantasy VII and Diablo and the graphics were smooth without jaggies like on a regular TV. Tricked me into thinking it was PS2 and not old PS. Plus you can read all text nice and clear in RPG's and such. Headphone jack too for good quality sound although speakers arn't too shabby. Plays CD's and PlayStation Games (that's a lot). The PSOne and screen is great for trips and such. If you buy this item I would recommend: 1. PSOne Car Adapter - Makes device Portable. Plugs into any cigarette-type outlet in car, even to socket on airplanes (check below your seat next time)! 3. PSOne Island Blue Dual Shock Controller (Awesome color) 2. PlayStation Memory Card (Light Gray or Island Blue) 4. PSOne Deluxe Carrying Case (Made by various companies) 5. 1/8" (Headphone jack type) Camcorder Stereo A/V Cable (Ask for at any Radio Shack, they will have it. This is ALL you need to hook up a DVD Player, VCR, etc. to the screen's AV IN. You don't need any PS2 cables or whatever described in another review.)

PSone w/ LCD is GREAT!!! Especially for roadtrips.,
This review is from: PS One & LCD Screen Combo (Video Game)
I don't own one yet, but i have played on one w/ the LCD screen, and it's quite AWESOME!!! Graphics are GRAND!!! And there's a plethora of games for the system, as Sony is still making them, unlike Sega's Dreamcast...so you aren't limited. Size is great, nice and compact. And if you're an extreme gamer like me, you can play this in your car!!! Awesome for roadtrips especially if you have kids that are like, "Are we there yet dad?" that say that a million times... So the kids can play in the car. All you need is the car adaptor, which isn't included like Eppy said... I made the mistake of buying a Dreamcast first... I am now trading it in for a PSone with the LCD, mostly cuase they got tons more games that i like, and also, i don't have to worry about buying a tv for it, or hooking it into my pc monitor. Also if you get the LCD screen, it's better then a TV. Better graphics, and you don't have to worry about the system blowing out your tv in 1-2 yrs cuase you'll have the LCD. Great buy/value, great price. You can get a PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube for $149-$200, but they don't have an LCD yet... if you do go with those, they can hook into a VGA monitor as will a PSone, but you're better off just getting it with the LCD. Hope this review helped ya. Happy Gaming!

Hi-Res, CD's, PS1 games, TV, Headphone out... It's Perfect!,

This review is from: PS One & LCD Screen Combo (Video Game)
The resolution is good, I don't miss any details in the video games I play on it. It's got a headphone plug so you can play anywhere without disturbing people. You can plug it in to your television just like a regular PS1 without the extra LCD screen, and it shows up on both screens a the same time... nice for two player games. (Note: It shows the same thing on both screens, so you don't get different views of the game). The built in sound isn't the best, probably like laptop speakers, but you can plug your headphones into it, or just use your AV out and plug it in to your stereo... The best part is, in addition to being a CD player / PS1 game player, you can plug in an external input for any kind of video - TV, VCR, DVD, PS2. Here's how. Buy a 1/8" stereo male to dual RCA female adapter. Plug the yellow video out from the PS2 into the white plug of the adapter. Plug the white left audio out from the PS2 into the red plug of the adapter. And you're good to go. The screen should turn itself on whenever the 1/8" plug is in. Sure you only get a mono/left signal, but if you can switch your material to mono it works. 95% of the time this should be fine. Or you can buy further adapaters & combine the left & right signals.

Sony does it again!,

I recently picked up a Sony PSone/LCD screen combo. To be honest I wasnt expecting it to be all great and wonderful, but it is. The LCD screen is made by Sony, it's backlit and very very clear. I would compare it to flat screen PC monitor, there is no streaking or lag when your playing games either. The "stereo sound" it claims to put out was surprising to me as well, for such a small compact unit it cranks out the sound. Out of the box it is one complete unit, no need to assemble things, just plug it in & play. The entire combo is sturdy and compact, nothing flimsy or cheap about it. I have made the mistake of buying second brand crap in the past to save a few bucks and it's not worth it. I just hope Sony makes a LCD monitor for the PS2.The only negative thing I can say about this product;

Perfect solution for travel.,

The console is very compact and lightweight. The car adapter is an additional $40 and it's worth it (I think there's also an off-brand cheapie). It keeps kids busy for hours of travel. The screen is very well lit and visible unlike Gameboy Color. I got a nice surprise when I found out that the screen flips down on top of the console which makes for easy storage, prevents the screen from getting scratched, and you don't have to dismantle it all the time like I expected. You can also hook it up to your TV without having to take the screen off. I hope Sony will come out with a Playstation 2 like this.

Playstation has done it again!,

Except no imitation screens for playstation, the sony one is the way to go. I bought one and I find it to be worth every penny. You can read all the text, the resolution is great and the stereo sound is everything you could want it to be. Previously I haven't bought the name-brand products to save some money, but for just a little more you can get the better looking and better working screen. The car adapter is a bit pricy but other than that it's a terrific invention. I found it to be a lifesaver on roadtrips. To be portable you have to get a bag to put everything in, I just use a camera bag.

Great item,
This review is from: PS One & LCD Screen Combo (Video Game)
This monitor/game console combo has great advantages. One, it does not have to tie up the television. Kids can play the game anywhere in the house where there is an outlet. With a car adapter it can be taken on the road for long road trips. A couple precautions might be considered. The small screen will effect some games, but not many so that the reading of small print is difficult. The monitor can be an eyestrain with overly extended use. The monitor/game counsel comes with a warning, as do all standard game counsels that extended game play can cause seizures. It's not common, but what is common is the normal strain one might experience on the eyes when being on a computer for many hours. The game can cause this eyestrain because characters are small and one gets best fun holding it up close to the viewing area. I highly recommend this item for convenience, but not for the standard gaming arrangement in the household. Learning games for children will be more interactive on a normal TV screen.
