This product worked perfectly after I looked up all steps to make it function.

I needed this to play the Japanese game "Berserk", for playstation 2.

I used this product on a slim model, with 3 sensors. After keeping 2 sensors pressed down, and 1 sensor pushed in by a "red white yellow" plug jack, this product was my gateway to bypass the region lock.

I felt unsure if this product was a scam or not, but it turns out it wasnt. Its very simple technology developed in an organized manner, to start the ps2 with an american disk, load into a menu that stops the disk from spinning, then letting you transfer to a japanese game disc.

If anyone needs help running this item on a ps2 slim, I'll see if I can help you.

MAKE SURE to buy these from G Dreamer when selecting who is shipping the discs to you - I was expecting to receive generic "Magic 3" discs due to the picture that Amazon has placed on the description page, but G Dreamer actually shipped the official NTSC-U Swap Magic 3.8 Coder discs to me.

My 80GB MGS4 PS3 is able to boot G Dreamer's official SM 3.8 Coder discs flawlessly - there seemed to be no strain on the PS3's lens nor any trouble booting apps. When you look at the bottom of either the CD or DVD, you will notice that the disc was printed with the "silver lines" that unlicensed PS2 discs require to boot properly (i.e. if you have a console that has issues booting PS2 BlueCD games/apps, this type of CD ~should not~ give you any trouble at all).

This works great for booting PS2 homebrew on the PS3 since it does not conflict with Sony's PSNetwork updates (just make sure your PS3 boots PS2 discs and the USB drive you are using has not been blocked by Sony). My Open PS2 Loader v0.8 app loaded just fine and allowed me to access my PS2 discs over SMB Network mode - PS3 compatibility with OPL isn't perfect right now (lagging/skipping movies), but an unmodded PS2 console runs even .hack//Fragment's original disc perfectly with the translation patch applied (via SMB).

An unmodded PS2 console hooked into an HDTV using the PS3's Component video cables will be able to use the GS Mode Selector v0.36 app to boot Open PS2 Loader & even official Sony PS2 game discs in 720p/1080i video mode (I like 1080i mode more myself) with 90-95% compatibility. Grandia III's opening movie now looks like a PS3-quality movie, and Yakuza 1 & 2 no longer suffer from the horrifying anti-aliasing filter that the PS3 automatically applies when playing on my 80GB MGS4 system's PS2 mode.

These are (most likely) not fake, I bought mine from the actual product website (they no longer sell directly) and mine just say 'magic' as well. SwapMagic isn't Nintendo, so packaging, marketing, and overall quality isn't that good.

If you have an old ps2 with a good laser, then you're fine. If not (like me), it might take a few tries (EVERY TIME) to get the disk to read (or it may work on the 1st try... who knows.). Once you get to the screen, the rest is really easy with a little practice (once you find out where to slide).

The end result is a product of swap magic, your authoring methods, your source, and your media. Once the dvd reads, swapmagic does it's job flawlessly.

(After sitting in a closet for a year, I found my PS2 won't play ANYTHING now, so my copy may end up here sooner or later :P )

Overall, it's a hassle. I'd just take super good care of your originals and not bother with this. But if you want to go the other route, then this is the only thing that I know of that does the job.

If you go this route
1) Learn how to use it
2) Know the outcomes/limitations of this method OVERALL

The last version of Swap Magic I used was very rudimentary and had basically nothing for an interface. This version is a lot more streamlined and is very easy to use. Highly recommended.

The discs arrived fast, and they work marvelously. Didn't expect the cheats added onto it (I was just going to use it for JAPN import games) but they were a fun bonus.

(Please refer to the video product review for more detailed information about this product)

These days, now that older consoles are less supported and more people are into the newer consoles, it's hard to go back to the old when there's nothing much left of the system itself. Most cases, once a system is outdated, it's never going to see another game again and you can't do anything more to the older consoles.

Well, this might change your mind. Swap Magic is a regional bypass tool that is used to help you play games that can't normally be played on your PS2. The program comes with 2 formats, CD and DVD. The reason is because PS2 originally started out as CD's, but was later converted to DVD's to keep up with, not only demand, but also the power of the games itself. So to play a Japanese PS2 CD-ROM, you use the Swap Magic CD-ROM to load it. (You get the idea) The only sad thing is, Swap Magic also needs another tool. Ideally, it suppose to come with a tool that helps you unlock your disc drive without the use of the "eject" button, as that is how the program works. (If you have no clue what I am talking about, then I cannot help you and I recommend you purchase something else) Sadly, this tool is not included with this product. So, if you order this, you are going to have to find the tool for this product, or order a special "Flip-top" case for your PS2. (If you have the PS2-Slim, you have to purchase a different tool than what I am referring to, since the PS2-Slim is a flip-top)

Overall, I have had a great experience with this device and I can't deny how well this program works. I personally cannot explain anymore as I would be giving away trade secrets to this device and program. Look either on youtube or other various sites about how Swap Magic works. Bring back life into your PS2.
