I just had a PS3 die on me and I figured it was due to heat. So I looked extensively for a cooling fan that was reliable and easy to install. I discovered this one, the Intercooler TS by Nyko.

The cooler was a very simple to attach to the PS3. All you do is snap it to the back and that's it. Very simple. Most of the gripes I read about other coolers were about installation problems. You will not have this problem with this cooler.

Another positive about this cooler is that it runs on its own power source. No using limitied USB slots (depending on your PS3 system) to power the device. The fans run automatically depending on the temperature of the Playstation so you don't have to manually shut the cooler off. Big plus!

There are four fans that cool off the system. I have my PS3 located in an entertainment center. Before I installed the fans, you could feel the heat radiating from the system. Now, it's cooler. You still feel the heat coming from the top (when standing up), but you can feel cooler air coming from the back.

Now for the negatives. The fans are LOUD!!! Even on low they are significantly loud. Just so there is no confusion: The fans turn on and off automatically, but they don't adjust in the same fashion (another negative I'll get to in a minute). When set at the highest setting they are annoyingly loud. Playing a game or movie at a high volume drains the noise out a bit but it is still noticable.

Now for the adjustment nob; I thought it was a bit of an annoyance that the fans turn on and off automatically, but the fan speeds don't adjust in the same way. You have to do that on your own. It makes me a bit uneasy because I keep wondering do I have the fans up high enough to avoid overheating the Playstation. I don't want to keep the fans on high constantly because I feel it will wear the intercooler down faster. That's just me.

Overall I think the Intercooler TS works well. If you are having overheating issues with your Playstation 3, or you store it in a confined entertainment center, you seriously want to consider buying this device. Of all the devices on the market, I thought this was the better buy.

The Intercooler is a the perfect way to ensure that your PS3 stays cool during long game play or if your PS3 is in a poor/less desirable area which limits air.
I am currently deployed in Afganistan. I have been here for a few years and every summer worries me that this will be the year that will make my PS3 go Kaput!
I bought this cooler to give me the piece of mind that i need.
In short: It has

The Pros are:
It cools as promised
The intercooler has a customized fit for the PS3 so once it's on it's on
Once you power down your PS3 the intercooler continues to provide air until the PS3 has cooled down

The Cons:
A little on the noisey side but not even close to unbearable. If I had to describe it I would say the noise would be similar to a window AC unit several minutes after it has been turned on ie after the compressor has turned off.

In summary I would say this product is a buy/must have for anyone who is concerned about temperature or airflow to their PS3.

Let's begin by saying that I don't live in the U.S.

I thought I needed this because I have my PS3 located in a small entertainment center and I decided to give it a try. The design is really nice and the installation is pretty easy, but man this thing is extremely loud, nevermind the design and installation you will forget them pretty soon after you listen to this thing, and to make things even worst, after a couple of weeks what began as a really anoying BUZZZ now has turned into a CHAINSAW, so the best advice I can give you is to stay away from this cooler.

I'm sure that you can cover the noise if you turn the volume up but if a you are a late night player like me this is out of the question.

I don't really use to criticize products and I really wanted to like this but the best thing you can do is keep looking for another solution if you think you need a cooler for your PS3.

I got this on a weekend travel so I can't give it back.

Nyko Intercooler TS is noisy, feels cheaply made and the way it attaches to the ps3 isn't as secure as you hope it is. The intercooler also makes unplugging an Ethernet cord from the ps3 a chore without removing the entire fan setup.

However, it does move a large amount of air out of the ps3 and will indeed keep your ps3 cooler for a little over $20 dollars.


Turn it on when your on an extended gaming session with a headset rocking and you won't hear it....Turn it off when your watching a movie or all you will hear during movie dialogue will be "WWRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!"

This item made my ps3 worse than before I bought it. It actully gets hot itself and just circulates even hotter air through the ps3. After speaking with people from my local video game store I learned that some people had brought their systems into the store with the intercooler melted onto the ps3. The best solution for overheating is to make sure your ps3 is not enclosed in an entertainment center and to keep it clean of by blowing it out with compressed air every so often.

This was a replacement for my Pelican Air-Flo cooler for my PS3 that broke during a move and now I can't find them anymore and that's too bad because they work good and look good.

The Intercooler TS for PS3 is considerably louder than it should be and the fan noises change from "acceptable" to "too loud" which tells me the fans aren't running at a consistent speed, but my fan speed dial is all they way up.

Also I can't tell if it's even doing an adequate job because while the back of the PS3 where these fans attach stay relatively cool the left side of my PS3 now gets considerably warmer so I think it's benefit is negligible at best.

While overheating is always a concern with electronic devices I am not sold on this Intercooler TS for PS3, hopefully I can find another Pelican Air-Flo.

Folks--My PS3 recently "died" ...it turns out that I had the dreaded YLOD (Yellow Light Of Death). It was easy to fix, there are tutorials on YouTube. When I had my PS3 completely apart it was easy to see what & where my problems were. My system had simply over-heated one too many times. Aside from my Heat Plates being severely discolored, the Copper Tubes that are supposed to disperse the heat from the plates were also severely discolored due to extreme heat. IMPORTANT: THE INTER-COOLER WAS NOT INSTALLED ON MY PS3 WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I TOOK IT OFF LAST YEAR BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS TOO LOUD, LOL. Anyway, the INTER-COOLER device creates a much needed flow of air through the PS3 which keeps it from reaching the extreme levels of heat it otherwise does. As far as the noise goes, it is loud. It definitely sounds like it is installed wrong almost every time. Like I mentioned earlier, I uninstalled mine last year because I didn't think it was necessary and it was loud. I LEARNED MY LESSON. What I usually do is turn the INTER-COOLER on 3-5 minutes prior to turning my PS3 on to play a game. This way, 95% of the time the INTER-COOLER has warmed up and put the majority of its bad noises behind it. When I play COD WAW I don't even notice the noise any more. I'd rather have a noisy PS3 than a dead one!!! BUY AN INTER-COOLER!! ...YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!

I don't undersdtand why people complain about the noise so much! Give me a break you can adjust the speed at any time and on the highest setting it is slightly lound if the volume is low. I like the fact that it took 2 minutes to instal and start using. It turns itself on and off according to the temp inside the PS3. I also like that it takes up no USB slots and plugs directly into the wall. This product is one of the few you will find that actually cools the PS3. Mine used to be pretty hot to the touch after a few hours of play. It is now luke warm after I am done and within a minute not warm at all. Another use for these fans is that it pulls air out of the PS3 thus, preventing much less dust from being able to get in.
I highly recommend this product. I did rate it a 4 overall just because of the few people out there comlaining of the noise, even though
on the lowest setting it is barely heard!

It took a little fiddling to get the thing to snap on (40 gig) but it's on solid and it's not that loud. On high it was barely noticeable while I watched a movie. And the movie wasn't turned up loud (non action movie, drama type). Once I turned the PS3 off for the night, I just turned fan down to low until it turned itself off and I didn't really hear it while watching TV. It works really well as far as cooling the system. I put my hand on the PS3 after a couple hours of game play and then again after watching the movie and it was cool the whole time. If you want to help keep your PS3 cool and don't mind the slight sound of fan then I recommend it. If you are super hyper sensitive to any fan type sounds then I guess you're out of luck because all PS3 coolers make some sort of noise. This one seems to be reasonably low compared to others.

I read a lot of reviews complaining about the level of noise of the product, but the noise is not as loud as the other reviewers make out to be, I just turn up the volume on my tv and even though I can still hear the fans I am not annoy by it and gotten used to it, and is not as unbearable as other people make it out to be. What I care most about is that does what is supposed to do, that is protect my Playstation3 from any problem due to overheating and the durability of the product. If it fullfills those two objetives, I will be and remain a happy camper.
