I agree! I have not paid more than $20 for any of my ps3 games. So I might be a few months behind the loop but I'm not stuck paying $60 or $70 for a game I beat in less than a month (example: army of 2) not that these games aren't fun to play, but they're not $60-70 woth of fun. Infact, I enjoy playing them more with the knowledge I saved $50 on them!
Blog rumors say it will come out 8/14 with madden, but if I were Sony and I had a lot of old PS3's in stock, I'd try to get rid of that first. In my mind, I feel as if Sony leaked the release of this so called cheaper "slim ps3" to get people buzzing about it. I think they'll come out with like a 50 dollar discount off the older PS3's on 8/14 when madden comes out, and they'll save the 100 dollars off for a "slim ps3" for the holiday season. It's only smart, I hope I'm wrong and they release the slim on 8/14, but it's not smart for sony if they did.
I bought Best Buy bundle with Killzone 2 and MSG4. I was going to buy a blu-ray player anyway, so seeing I would have spent $200 on a blu-ray and the games are worth about $85, I spent about $115 on the actual "gaming system" portion of the bundle. I would say the gaming capabilities of the PS3 are more than worth the $115, especially since I don't need to buy a wireless adapter ($70-80) like I would with a 360. The "slim" PS3 doesn't really hold much value to me as I place mine on top of my cabinet anyway so it can breathe. As far as pricing, Dell has offered the PS3 for $339 for most of the year with a coupon code and was even cheaper at one point. Newegg had it for $340 at one point and Target has a Resistance/Motorstorm bundle. So its not hard to find one for less than $400 right now.
