This device can put the icing on the cake for anyone that has a universal remote or uses IR to control their home cinema system. I takes in your IR signal (codes for pronto are available to download) and converts it into the Bluetooth signal that the PS3 understands. Just point the IR at this device and it re-sends it to the PS3 by Bluetooth. It's responsive and you just forget you have it after a while.

So you have, say a single universal remote control for all your AV equipment, but then you get a PS3 (not a bad idea considering how great a product it is). Then you realise you need a Bluetooth remote to control you Blu-ray/DVD playing. So now you have two remotes! Not if you get this PS3IR-1000.

There is a forum for understanding how to use this device and also a web site from the manufacturer to allow you to understand how to make it work; I found it quite easy to get working including adding pages to my Pronto with the downloaded codes. Note this device can also teach a universal remote the codes required, I did not need to do this but it looks easy.

This device requires a USB socket with power on it, I use a small USB ipod charger but any USB socket which is powered will do, I don't recommend using the PS3 USB as these are not powered when the PS3 is in standby and therefore this device would not see the `on' command.

Great product sorts out a problem that Sony has created by not having IR receiver in the PS3.

The PS3 has always eluded the pro AV world, mostly due to its inability to accept IR or IP control, until now. The PS3IR-1000 accomplishes what Sony should have done out of the box, provide a stable means of controlling Sony's console with a professional control system like Crestron or AMX.

Setup is a piece of cake, and the supplies pronto hex codes plug into Toolbox seamlessly. Wiring is simple, and a wired IR input is even provided.
Thing is rock solid, the discrete power functions work like you would expect them to, and the whole experience is more like one I am used to with RS232 then an IR experience

Note to those who are having problems using this controller in game:
The IR receiver shows up to the PS3 as the Sony BD remote, which means by default it is assigned as controller 7. Although the power off function and the ps button will still work in a game, the rest of the controls won't unless you assign the remote to be controller 1. To do this, press and hold the PS button, select "controller settings" and then "reassign controller", after this is done the PS3 IR adaptor will now work as the primary controller. (If this is something you do a lot, you might want to consider making this a macro either in your control system program or by using one of the available macros on the adaptor.)

Overall you should buy the PS3IR-1000, it is much simpler and much more stable than other devices such as the Logitech Harmony adaptor...

I linked this adapter with my Logitech Harmony 1100 remote and it works great! It's a bit pricey but if you have a universal remote and would like to control your PS3 with your remote for Netflix/Hulu/Blurays this will do it all. The start up and shut down commands work very well and this works with the PS3 Slim as opposed to the Logitech Harmony adapter which only works with the original PS3.

Not much to say, it converts IR to bluetooth flawlessly. Plug the power USB cable into something other than the PS3 (like a cable box) or you won't be able to turn the PS3 on with the remote. The online instructions are easy to follow. I had to manually learn the commands for my URC remote control, but that was expected.

This works great to control my PS3. I use it with the Re Universal Remote. Re iPhone Universal Remote Control - Infrared Remote Control Accessory for iPhone and iPod touch I also used the smaller version of this product and it works fine but doesn't control power on for the PS3. I HAD LOOKED INTO USING THE PSIII IR KIT BEFORE BUT WAS UNCERTAIN ON HOW WELL THE INTERFACE WOULD WORK. I DO ALOT OF HOME AUTOMATION AND FINALLY CAME ACROSS A JOB WHERE THE CUSTOMER HAD TO USE THE PSIII BECAUSE SHE ALSO USED THE PSIII AS A MEDIA SERVER. I CALLED SCHMARTZ AND WAS IMMEDIATLY CONNECTED TO SOMEONE WHO WAS VERY HELPFULL AND TOLD ME EVEYTHING I NEEDED TO KNOW DOWN TO THE CODE SET NUMBER I NEEDED TO USE FOR MY URC REMOTE I WAS PROGRAMMING. THE PS3IR-1000 ALSO ALOWS FOR A MUCH MORE USER FRIENDLY ENDUSER INTERFACE FOR THE CUSTOMER BECAUSE THE PSIII CONTROLLER ISNT NECESSARLY HUMAN NATURE TO CONTROL YOUR DVD OR BLU-RAY FUNCTIONS. POINT OF THE STORY IS THE PS3IR-1000 IS AN ALL AROUND GREAT PRODUCT FOR ANY HOME AUTOMATION NEED. THE ONLY THING I WOULD STEER AWAY FROM IS ANY LOGITEC PRODUCT AND IF YOUR ANY KIND OF AUDIO VIDEO PHILE YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IM GETTING AT. THANKS AGAIN SCHMARTZ.

This device is not a game but it will allow you to use your Sony PS3 with your "Universal Remote Control" or other brand IR controller. It lets you operate a PS3 as a media player without having to resort to gaming handles. Make your wife happy and your life easier by adding this device "Made In TEXAS" to your system. Then have your local CEDIA certified system integrator program your remote to operate it. You will really like this device for adding the convenience of easy operation to your system.

This was my second device purchased in an effort to control the Sony Playstation 3 with IR Controllers and have the ability for on/off control. You would be very please on how this device works and allows complete control of all aspects of the Sony Playstation 3 using IR Remote Controllers like the Logitech Harmony family. My remote system is called Control4 which is a wireless ethernet type control system which has been installed in my home for several years.

In order to get the PS3IR to work it required the Sony Playstation to learn it and replace the original hand held remote control. This means you can't have a second Sony Remote Control which is fine if you are only going to use your IR Remote Controller.

In summary, installs fast, works perfect. Excellent choice.

Purchased this device to allow me to control my PS3 via my URC RF-20 univeral remote control (with base station IR blaster).

It was easy to set up - allowed me to "teach" my remote directly from a Windows application available for free download via the manufacturer's website. The on/off function works great.

In total, took max 15 minutes to set up. Highly recommended.

Finally, I can control my PS3 with my RTI universal remote control. Easy to install and it works exactly as promised.
