3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting background
This book looks at the background to U.S. efforts, mainly the CIA and Department of defense, to use ESP to spy on the USSR. The book focuses on personalities (which is understandable, since the activity is ultimately based on individual abilities) and explains how in a field which is largely conservative that interest was generated in psychic activity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A deftly written, thoroughly fascinating, informed and informative reading, November 3, 2007
This review is from: PSI Spies: The True Story of America's Psychic Warfare Program (Paperback)
'Remote Viewing' is the term used to describe a psychic or paranormal ability to see places and events far removed from the normal line of physical sight. This would such psychically gifted men and women the perfect reconnaissance and information gatherers on an enemy's operations. In short, it would make them the perfect spy. What is not generally known is that the Russians during the height of the Cold War tried to develop a remote viewing program. When the American military discovered this, they embarked on a similar program. Award-winning journalist Jim Marrs lays out the entire story of this little known aspect to the Cold War confrontation between the Russians and the Americans in "Psi Spies: The True Story Of America's Psychic Warfare Program". He reveals how the U.S. Army trained men and women to try to psychically access secrets of Soviet command centers, missile complexes, biological warfare centers -- even the Kremlin itself. Also included are the stories of how skilled remote viewers learned about the fate of the Mars Observer that was 'lost' as it entered orbit around Mars; gained knowledge of a series of mysteries (the most prominent of which was the assassination of President John F. Kennedy); and even applying remote viewing to the legendary Loch Ness Monster. Of special note are the tips on how the reader can develop remote viewing abilities themselves! "Psi Spies" is a deftly written, thoroughly fascinating, informed and informative reading recommended for anyone with an interest in Metaphysical Studies and 20th Century American Military History.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kind of Scary, July 18, 2008

This review is from: PSI Spies: The True Story of America's Psychic Warfare Program (Paperback)
For the most part I like the stuff Jim Marrs turns out, and this book is unquestionably better than Alien Agenda. This book is an intriguing and somewhat disturbing story of the government's efforts to develop remote viewing into an espionage tool during the cold war.

Mr. Marrs documents many successes of remote viewing even though the government never really appears to have fully accepted remote viewing's utility. The RV program proved to be successful enough to convince most of the remote viewers that participated in the program of its effectiveness, to the extent that they stayed in the field in their private lives, many to this day.

Mr. Marrs presents a convincing argument that remote viewing really works, until one takes a critical look at bozos like Major Ed Dames, and then one wonders if Mr. Marrs is really telling the whole story.

Anyway, I liked the book and I would highly recommend it to those interested in the subject matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeper Understanding Appreciated~~~!!!!, November 17, 2008

This was such an excellent read. It's another treasure from Mr. Marrs who is so well documented with his work. To believe or not believe? It begs the answer: follow your heart and mind, and keep reading to enlighten yourself. Things today are not what they seem. People want to believe in something. Where they need to look first, in my opinion, is simply in their own mind's backyard, so to speak. Trust yourself and go forward~! I also think it's a good idea to find some great mentors like I did, to help awaken you from the social sleep so many are in. A book costs nothing but your time to go into a library and experience it. They're always there. They never say no. In so many ways they will take care of you. They can heal you. You've just got to get yourself motivated and start your journey~!

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting background, June 14, 2011
This review is from: PSI Spies: The True Story of America's Psychic Warfare Program (Paperback)

The book looks at the scientific experiments designed to confirm ESP, the use of double-blind testing and the mechanics of remote viewing. Unfortunately, the book falls into the new age trap that if you accept ESP then you must accept ALL "fringe" beliefs, such as ghosts, UFOs and auras. The book discusses a "history" of ESP which I had to skip since it was based on conjecture rather than proof or scientific testing. Interesting but not the book I was looking for or hoping for.

Excellent revelation of what was going on within the government in respect of a Black Sheep department, as it were, which has been disbanded. Or. . . has it? Maybe it's a deep under cover Black Ops entity, now. And that's what I figure it is.

Students that were involved in the Monroe Institute like as not were moved in in replacement of the existing group. The Monroe Institute, the book does tell, was closely associated with the government's Remote Viewing operations. Monroe, he even asked for help from them at least one time, when Monroe became aware that he was being spied on. Way back before there were computers I used to correspond with Monroe by mail. He read an early draft of material I was developing, and remarked, "It deserves wide dissemination." And his third and final book was aligned with it, entirely altering some things he had said before. I will be publishing in a couple of years or so at least four books called, called, the GUIDE Book Series.

Years worth of tests by the government's RV unit conclusively proved that seeing at a distance is possible, so why would the operation be simply eliminated? Makes no sense.

Note that Remote Viewing is not the same thing as an Out of the Body Experience. The book, in a few few brief remarks, makes that clear. An OBE is too cosmic. Any OBE experiencer in no way cares about any government interests. From that superior perspective all government interests could only be seen as it is. Sick. So remote Viewing is only done from a light trance state.

PSI SPIES is another gem from the treasure trove of Jim Marrs.
I have found Jim Marrs' non-fiction, no-non-sense approach to whatever he chooses to write to be gripping, eye opening, raw, and yet powerfully refreshing. If it isn't real, I don't believe Jim Marrs will waste his time on any subject matter. I enjoyed reading PSI Spies. But then again, I enjoy reading what Jim Marrs writes.
