This is the best case out there for the PSP.

5)Over all it's worth the price and it beats every other case out there on the market.

4.0 out of 5 stars Protecting While Serving, May 15, 2005
This review is from: PSP PlayGear Pocket (Accessory)
This is a very cleanly designed and sturdy system case for the Sony PSP handheld. The clear polycarbonate shell fits the general shape of the PSP with access holes for power, headphone/remote jack, wi-fi, and on/hold switches. The inside of the PlayGear is lined with a rigid, rubber-like compartment that provides a snug fit for the unit itself. You can play your PSP without having to remove it from the case, which is neat, and it feels pretty good in doing so. The hinged top can be folded up to act as a glare screen or almost all the way back to allow you to "stand" the case on a flat surface for viewing UMDs as well.

Initially, I had some difficulty getting the case opened and closed. The latch button is of the pressure-sensitive style, and is molded in as part of the case. I suspect I just need to "break it in", so to speak, but it is worth noting.

Also, despite being designed to protect the unit while it is being used, it lacks a belt clip or other attachment that would make it easier to carry and thus even more portable.

Overall, though, I'm pretty happy with this product. The case is really intended to protect the PSP while you are using it, and in this respect, it does the job well. Those folks looking for a good travel case to store your PSP and accessories while going on a trip might be better served by the Pelican Road Pak kit, or other type of carry bag.

Here's the quick rundown:

Pros:
Clean lines/attractive styling
Lightweight
Sturdy
Access holes for charging, controlling the unit, or listening to MP3s while closed
Case doubles as a glare screen or viewing stand

Cons:
Latch is a little difficult to open
No additional compartments for extra storage
No belt clip or carry strap attachments
Still need a separate transparent overlay or monifilm guard for screen protection

i just bought a piano black psp2k (mostly for movies while travelling) and thought this case would offer good protection while in my bag, which it does. the reason that i gave it 2 stars is that one of the best features for my intended purpose was the 270 degree hinge to make a stand while watching movies. unfortunately the psp2k headphone jack is in a place that's covered (just barely) so there's no way to use this a stand and have your headphones plugged in. the wireless on/off is also covered so that's useless as well.

i think it should be noted in the product description that this item doesn't work well (other than protection) for the psp2k. unfortunate.

4.0 out of 5 stars At Last! A Case That Makes Sense!, July 2, 2005
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: PSP PlayGear Pocket (Accessory)
There is probably nothing more annoying to me than having to plunk down a chunk of change for a case for an already expensive portable gaming system. I mean, why not just make the system with the proper protection straight out of the box, right? The PSP is awfully cool to play and to just look at, but it's prone to any myriad of scratches or scuffs - not the sort of thing you want to see happen to your new, pretty little piece of tech. The "case" (if you want to call it that) that comes with the PSP "Value Pack" is nothing more than a padded slipcover - not very practical in any sense of the word. I've also tried the Intec metal hard case. It does its job, certainly, but it's basically only good for transporting the PSP. It offers no protection while playing, which is exactly why Logitech's new case is vastly superior to anything I've come across.

Sleek and cool, the Logitech Playgear Pocket matches in style and substance the stylish form factor of the PSP. Just slip your PSP into the clear polycarbonate case and you're done. The clamshell case closes to fully protect the system, while allowing full access to powerports and more. The interior of the case features rubberized padding, so it seems more than plausible that it can protect the PSP from substantial falls onto hard surfaces like concrete.

But the coolest thing about the Playgear Pocket is that once you place your PSP inside it, you never need to remove it. The Playgear allows access to the shoulder buttons on the PSP even from within its protective casing. The flip top also serves as a handy sun shield if you're playing outside, and it flips all the way back to create a stand if you want to watch a movie on the PSP without holding the system the entire time (I suppose this could be handy on a long flight, but it's at best a marginal benefit - especially considering the short battery life of the PSP).

The one gripe I have about the Playgear (and the reason this review gives it four stars rather than five) is that it provides no space for carrying games or other accessories (such as the large, unweildy power cord). But the Playgear is designed for maximum protection, not maximum storage space, so I can certainly live with the limitation.

Now - if only Logitech could make something similar for the Nintendo DS................... :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, stylish protection, July 12, 2005
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: PSP PlayGear Pocket (Accessory)
Several other people already touched on some of the aspects of the PlayGear Pocket for PSP, so I'll try to add a few details.

The PlayGear Pocket is made of a tough, highly-polished transparent material. The inside of the case is lined with black rubberized padding. The effect is visually beautiful. The sleek high-tech black look, encased in an almost-glass-quality shell is just stunning.

The PSP is held quite securely in it. The lid is hinged and opened by pressing on the panel on the front. The lid can swing all the way back so that the unit can "stand" to make it easier to watch movies or video. It's a very nice design!

Now for the negatives.

1) The case itself, while lightweight, still adds some weight and size to the unit. This is not really a bad thing since any kind of case offering any kind of real protection would do the same (there's no way around that). Since there's a noticeable size and weight increase while the PSP is in the case, it definitely becomes a bit more unweildy to operate the PSP while it's in the case, possibly increasing the chance to drop the unit. I'm not saying it's uncomfortable to operate the unit, just that it's larger and heavier and not nearly as ergonomic to use.

2) Yes, you can operate the PSP while it's in the case. But unlike some of the other reviews here would suggest, your system isn't really "protected" if you're operating it while the lid is open (and outside of playing music, anything you do would require the lid to be open). While it's a secure, snug fit, nothing actually "holds" the PSP in the case. If you're playing a game and drop it, since the lid is open, the PSP can very easily pop out upon impact. In that regard, one of the rubberized slipcovers that are available may offer better protection.

3) I haven't had the unit for very long, but I imagine over time the beautiful clear finish will get marred with minor scratches and scuffs. Such is the price to pay for something so stylish though.

4) Since it only acts as a very stylish, rugged cover, it has no capability of allowing you to carry games, the charger, headphones, or any other peripherals.

In spite of the negatives, the case is quite wonderful. It's an incredibly stylish and attractive way to store your PSP. It's perfect for keeping your PSP protected while it's not in use (it looks great even when it's just laying around!), and a great way to transport your PSP. Don't mistake it for one of the rubberized slipcovers that protects it while in use. Instead, think of it as an incredibly well-designed cross between a carrying case and a protection slipcover.

I have no regrets at all over buying it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for PSP Slim & Light (PSP-2000), December 4, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PSP PlayGear Pocket (Accessory)
The ordering process and delivery was as smooth as possible (thanks, Amazon.com), but this product is not designed for the new PSP Slim & Light (PSP-2000), which is what I have. I wish the product description made that clear. The new PSP sits loose in the case, and the earphone socket is covered by the case while the unit is inside the case. Luckily, Amazon.com took it back, no hassle, and even paid for the return shipping. Can't beat the service.

I had to rate it in order to leave this review, so I'm giving it four stars. It looks like a superbly made and sturdy product, and enough people seem to be happy with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR PSP SLIM! BUT>........, January 4, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: PSP PlayGear Pocket (Accessory)
This case is NOT for the psp slim... But for anyone that is going to or already has the case, you can make adjustments for it psp to fit. When I got
the case I thought that the thing would never fit...But I was wrong, If you put some Styrofoam at the bottom of the case, that way the psp will be lifted so it won't jiggle around so much. Next I used my drill on the side so the ear buds would fit in the hole.

Another thing I hate is the edge on the left side, so I sanded it down.
It's to big too, but it makes you feel like you have something(for only psp slims).
If you have it and want to send it back, it costs more for for shipping then what you payed for.
I only rate this item for 3 stars because it would be great with the core.

IF YOU HAVE A SLIM, DO NOT GET THIS ITEM!

5.0 out of 5 stars Logitech Play Gear Pocket for the PSP, July 19, 2005
This review is from: PSP PlayGear Pocket (Accessory)
I love this PSP protector. It's sweet looking right from the package Great protection for your PSP and you can customize it by placing pictures behind the rubber padding. You can go to http://www.modmypsp.com to download images to put into your Playgear pocket. I reccommend going to kinkos with these and getting them to print up a few of them on high quailty photo paper, they even cut them out for you.
