Dramatically improve your TV's sound quality with
the compact, wireless PSWi225 Subwoofer
Add Deep Bass Performance to Your TV Watching ExperienceEasy and Economical
You're missing something, and you may not even know it. Your TV looks great, but when you hear the music, effects and dialog from its little speakers you think: I wish this had more oomph! The Polk Audio PSWi225 Wireless Subwoofer is instant oomph! for your TV.
Dollar for dollar, there is no more economical way to add real drama and impact to your TV sound than with a subwoofer. It fills in the bass effects that your TV speakers cannot come close to reproducing. Offering a great way to dramatically improve the limited built-in audio performance of flat panel televisions in one easy step, the PSWi225 is the logical choice for high performance.
Compact, Powerful, Wireless
The PSWi225 Powered Wireless Subwoofer was developed to overcome one of the major objections to installing component home theater systems: subwoofer placement. The big boxes can be unsightly and may not fit with your room's décor. LFE cables are expensive and create visual clutter if the subwoofer isn't placed next to entertainment furniture. Taking up less than a cubic foot of space and free of costly, unsightly wires, the PSWi225 instantly adds a dimension of deep bass impact to your otherwise two-dimensional TV watching experience without cluttering your room. Experience the simple improvement of bass. It's already in your HDTV broadcasts and your DVDs. You just have to unleash it.
Powerful wireless transmitter goes anywhere in your room
Enjoy Wireless Convenience
The new PSWi225 Wireless Subwoofer makes enjoying home theater a lot more convenient. Use it on its own or pair it with another Polk home theater system package (sold separately). With the PSWi225, you can add 100 watts of serious bass impact to movies and games. Its powerful wireless transmitter frees you from cable length restriction and frees you to place it anywhere in your room--even inside furniture.
The compact, state-of-the-art 2.4GHz wireless transmitter interfaces easily with any system, can be hidden away and includes mounting options for placement either on-shelf, under-shelf or to the side or back of the entertainment stand. Plug the subwoofer into a nearby wall outlet, connect the transmitter and you're done.
Dynamic Balance technology tunes out distortion
Power You Can Feel
The powerful 100W onboard amplifier features active crossover controls you can use to further tweak your bass response for your room and your custom placement. Adjust the low-pass filter settings, phase response and volume to control your bass output and blending with your front stage speakers for optimum bass performance anywhere you put the subwoofer.
For the deepest bass possible, the heavy duty, non-resonant MDF cabinet is internally braced and ported, and fires an 8-inch Dynamic Balance driver down toward your floor, using the flare of the port to radiate waves of low frequency. You'll feel this bass in the seat of your pants.
Flared J-Porting system improves bass detail and definition
Onboard Polk Digital Logic uses advanced auto-sensing to determine the signal your system is sending (LFE or Line Level) and instantly responds, selecting the appropriate low-pass filter. The PSWi225 doesn't call attention to itself until it senses a signal and snaps to attention, allowing you to experience its big bass output.
The 8-inch subwoofer driver incorporates patented Polk Audio Dynamic Balance technology to tune unwanted resonance and distortion out of the lightweight copolymer driver for more clarity and low-frequency detail, bringing you pure, distortion-free sound. The driver features a polymer composite cone, inverted dust cap and rugged butyl rubber surround that provides superior rigidity and damping properties.
Klippel Optimized Woofer
Using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Polk engineers have optimized the woofer's motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension for the best possible performance, even at room-shaking listening levels.
Computer modeling enabled creation of a flared J-Port design that optimizes laminar air flow. The result is superior bass detail and definition at a variety of listening levels, as well as enhanced integration with the main speakers, while retaining the PSWi225's unobtrusive, compact design.

When I saw this wireless sub at $208 on Amazon, it was worth trying so I ordered it and received it in less than a week. Took me 5 mins to plug in and VOW, what a difference it made! The wireless transmitter has Audio-L & R ports that are connected to the Audio out of my TV. It also has a LFE input to connect directly to the sub woofer output of an amp. I'm blown away by the quality of this product and the ease of use. Now I'm so used to this thing that if I turn it off, the built-in 5.1 TV speakers that used to sound pretty good, feel like tin-can speakers. I am extremely happy with this product (at this price point) and am thinking of adding another one to complement two 8" ceiling speakers in my family room. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to add that extra touch of bass to an existing TV or iPod dock or any speakers that lack the bass. I hope the $208 price stays the same for a while or even drops further.
I was not expecting this to equal the sub I have in our home theater room, but I find it boomy--lots of mid-bass, not too much down really low. If you have very small front speakers, this might be a good match, but even my Boston Acoustics 4.5" woofers go down low enough that this doesn't make much of a difference.
Also (it's not really a criticism, but a design observation) this device is not easy to use in a 2.1 configuration. Many receivers don't put out a volume-controlled line-level output suitable for this without a center channel in use also. If you buy this in the hopes of converting 2.0 to 2.1 sound, first investigate whether your AVR or TV will put out a line (i.e., low) -level signal that is controlled by the volume control. Our AVR defeats the LFE output unless the audio is set to a surround mode, which assumes a center channel speaker is in place (meaning no dialogue is heard without a center channel speaker). the available low-level outputs from the AVR and the TV are not volume-controlled.
PRO: The wireless feature works perfectly in our room. The sub itself is attractive enough.
CON: Boomy mid-bass, limited bass extension. No speaker-level inputs. BRIGHT blue light on the transmitter is always on (i.e., as long as the power supply for the transmitter is plugged in)
I was so impressed I changed out the front center, left & right speakers for Polk units also. This lot in conjunction with my in-ceiling Polk surround left and right give me the best surround sound I have ever had. I was always skeptical when I read that it is best if all the satalite units are from the same manufacturer but I am a believer now.
The subwoofer itself is a good looking unit that feels solid and quality when held. I like the auto on/off feature which allows the unit to be left alone as it will automatically turn on when a signal is detected and then off when there is no signal. There is a red off light and a green on light.
Right out of the box I was disapointed with the cheap feel and look of the transmitter but this is really not an issue as it works fine and can be kept out of sight which is just as well as the unit has a remarkably bright blue light on it that would be a disstration if in the line of sight when watching tv/video.
I feet like this unit paid for itself because with it been wireless I did not have to pay for a really long subwoofer cable and I did not have to figure out how to invisably route the cable.
Set up of this wireless subwoofer is a breeze. I think it is easier to set up than a wired subwoofer which is really easy also.
I am happy with this subwoofer and I am sure you will be too.
01/12/10 Update. This last weekend the sub was making sound even though my audio equipent was off. The speaker was picking up a ghost signal from the transmitter I think. Solved the problem by disconecting the power cable to to transmitter and reconecting it a few seconds later. We will se if this happens again. It is still an awsome sub.
