5.0 out of 5 stars It's a hit
I think this game is really cool. I like the number of ways you can play. You can be a starter skater and make your way up by competing. It's hard to get the judges to give you high scores so you keep playing until you do. Or you can play for high scores. There are also many games for two players. I like the fact that this game has no blood. Tony Hawk's Game has...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent game!
When the skateboarding game phenom blew up on the PSX after the release of the first Tony Hawk game this was undoubtable to come behind it. While this game isn't horrible back then, by todays standard its just not a good game. The controls are weak and unresponsive. The graphics are sub-par even for back then. The sound isn't bad though with some great liscense music. You...

It's hard to get the judges to give you high scores so you keep playing until you do. Or you can play for high scores. There are also many games for two players. I like the fact that this game has no blood. Tony Hawk's Game has blood coming out everywhere. Although this may be more realistic, I play the game for the tricks, not the gore. So what if nothing happens when the skater runs into the wall...it's a game....and I have yet to see a real skater do a stalefish 900. So if you're into a game for the content and how fun it is...buy MTV Sports: skateboarding featuring Andy Macdonald.

4.0 out of 5 stars MTV Skateboarding nosegrinds to a great game, September 22, 2000

MTV Skateboarding is a pretty good game. I really liked the many skaters and skateparks. They both seemed relly realistic. I think this is going to be the best skateboarding game ever, but I think they will give Tony Hawk's Pro Skater a run for their money. I hope the game gets a lot of good reviews because it deserves them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic Nightmare.... need I say more, August 18, 2010

When I was younger I thought this game was crap. Now I played it again and guess what! It's still crap. The only thing this game even has going for it period is the soundtrack. The soundtrack was freaking amazing. I got it again just to find out what songs were on it!

Only other redeemable factor is the stunt mode. It is done horribly due to the controls and how just clunky this game is. But if it were in a different game it would be godly!

1.0 out of 5 stars Ridin' the Tony Hawk bandwagon, January 26, 2001

This game is a dismal failure to ride the popularity of Tony Hawk 1 & 2. If you liked either of the Hawk games, you'll hate this one. First off, the graphics bite. Not that Hawk 1 had great graphics, but at least the skaters were kinda recognizable & the tricks were fairly realistic. Seems like the programmers didn't even try for this one. Not only are the skaters unrecognizable, the tricks are terrible! The Japan air looks the same as the mute, which looks the same as the indy nosebone, which looks the same as the stalefish, etc. Don't even ask about the varial. Here's the clincher, the buttons are exactly the same, but work in opposite order. In Hawk, you hit the direction key, then the trick button. Button first in this one, then the direction. This is the most annoying aspect of the game 'cuz if you're spinnin' out on a vert ramp & you realize you're not gonna finish that last rotation, you can't correct by turnin' back the other way 'cuz you end up doin' a different trick & falling anyways. Stupid! You can't balance out your grinds either so you hafta ollie off when the meter starts to tip, only you'd better ollie off to the side (which is harder than it sounds) 'cuz if you land anywhere near the rail you fall rather than just touching down next to it. Stupid! The level objectives are the same every time except eventually you need to score higher on the judges' scorecard. But as long as you have your grab tricks wired & a halfpipe you can get a 10 every time. I don't know how many 720 airwalks & rocket airs I did on every level, but they should be outlawed as a move for me by now. There are like a hundred tricks you can do (no joke) & the button combos make no sense. Right & grind is a Smith and diagonally down & right & grind is a Feeble. Huh? Then if you hit the grind button & a direction on the flats you start doin' a flatground trick. You see some cool freestyle moves, but if you were tryin' to grind & miss (which is easier to do than it sounds) you end up freestylin' straight into the rail & falling. Stupid!

The only redeeming bits of this game are the stunt & deathmatch modes. Stunt mode is very creative & super fun to play once you've got the controls wired. It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like, you jump over cars & stuff like that. It ends up bein' a big obstacle course, which is VERY stimulating compared to the career mode. If I've gotta explain deathmatch to you, seek professional help. Ever see Thrasher? Just like that but with gnarlier weapons.

So there it is. Don't waste your money on this game. There are at least 2 far superior games to this one that I'm sure you'll enjoy much more. If you're a glutton for skateboarding games & a masochist, buy this game from me.

1.0 out of 5 stars There's not enough in this game to be a copy-cat., November 16, 2000

The physics in this game are outrageous. Try this. When at home, get on your skateboard or any thing else that rolls, and go full speed at a wall. Do you know what happens? You fall down. Not evan the best skaters could sustain such a hit. Unless you are in this game. In this game however, you just stop. This is a bad thing. Also, when you do fall(and when attemting tricks you will do a lot of)you only have two bail animations. Falling on you back, and, well, your back in a different way. Grinding will lead to such rages that you have never imagened. No clue as to when you are going to fall off. Oh, and don't evan think about doing any other tricks, not that there are many to try. The only thing good is the music. Don't buy this.
