I installed this PJ about 4 weeks ago and the picture continues to delight me. A huge upgrade from my last Sanyo PLV-70 projector, which was a star in its day. This picture is flimlike, no pixelation to be seen, and enough contract and brightness for any screen. I find LCD "warmer" than DLP and choose to stick with LCD again. I project on a 120" Da-Lite High Contrast Cinemavision and a throw distance of about 16 1/2 feet. HD sources are eye popping, even SD is great with good sources (DVD especially nice). A nice surprise is how quite this PJ is, very low fan noise. Finally, the price point is amazing, it is roughly 1/2 of what I paid for my last PJ alomost 5 years ago!

Just upgraded from the PTAE1000U which I only had for a month, prior to that I've had a Sony HS-10 for 4 years. The picture on the 2000U is outstanding in comparison to both! I'm projecting onto a 120" screen with minimal zoom adjustment and feeding it with signal from a Tivo Series 3, Scientific Atlanta 8300, and upscaling DVD -- the HD-DVD is on order.
While the physical size of this projector is on the large-side, it is designed to make placement very easy with the horizontal and vertical lens adjustment that doesn't require any keystoning. It also vents out the front so it is ideal for putting on a shelf against a back wall of a room.

Bought the PT-AE2000U before Christmas for $2699. Have it ceiling mounted from a 9 foot suspended ceiling in my basement and projecting on a 160" Drywall painted a neutral gray from a 18 foot distance. Have it hooked to a Panny BD30 Blu-ray player. Amazing picture quality as expected from Panasonic. Watching Blu-ray in 1080p is sheer delight. Even on such a large screen - no issues with brightness, or loss of details. Very accurate, sharp, crisp and rich colors. Sometimes the picture quality seems better than even the ones at cinema theaters. I am running it on Eco-mode and at Normal picture setting. Color and Cinema settings also look great. Plenty of lumens and clarity. Go Get it !! Don't think twice :-)

The picture this projector puts out is insane. I work in film/TV and can say unequivocally, this machine puts out a gorgeous picture with great contrast, sharpness and color saturation (which can be dialed back in presets or manually).
It's an a a full Hi-def projector but frankly, until the smoke clears on the Blu-Ray / HD DVD wars I am sticking with old school DVDs, which turns out to be fine because this machine can make them look fantatstic -- Especially if you pair the machine with a new upscaling DVD player. I played a couple of movies out of my crappy Sony combo DVD / VHS machine just to see what it looked like and it was remarkably good. Then I bought a new Oppo DV 980 H, an upscaling DVD player (fantastic and only $169!!!) and connected it to the projector via HDMI and the pcture got even more amazing. The bottom line is, this projector will not disappoint. The fact that it's relatively inexpensive makes it even sweeter.

I just install mine, i dont know from where i start, my screen is 183" !! approx. 406cm x 227cm yes very big, distance projector to screen is about 9 meter's "27 foot" , also distance from my denon amp. to proj. is 15 meter approx."50 foot" by HDMI cable, got it from bettercables, and i would say that its eye poping, dont try DLP if you want clarity, LCD is the best, also my room is lit-up using some dimming lights, trust me, the picture quality is much much more better than what says in all review's, im still using my old dvd player , which is around $ 80 , line's, contrast, and image , all are great, i was worried because of the size of my screen, but its out of this world, i dont know how some say that its not good for big screen, i guess they are copying others review.

I rarely write reviews for products that I purchase, but this one simply deserves it. The picture is amazing - I have watched blu-ray & standard DVDs and they both look wonderful. The blu-ray films are simply breath taking.
I have read in a few other places about concerns that this projector is not bright enough for larger screens. I don't know where those concerns come from. When I first got the machine, I tested it in a room with some ambient light spilling in, shooting a 155" screen on regular painted drywall, and the picture was plenty bright. When I close the blinds, the image literally pops off the wall like you are looking at a LCD TV. Remember - this was on plain ol' painted drywall. Congratulations to Panasonic on a great product - a rare technological product that will last for many, many years. With everything this thing has, there will simply be no need to upgrade for a long, long time. If you have been holding back on buying a projector, your time has come. Excellent product, very reasonable price.

I am a die-hard CRT fan, but I finally had to buy a new projector to handle 1080p sources. I have never seen a fixed-pixel projector that can compete with CRT on black levels and shadow detail, but as CRTs are basically no longer produced I had little choice.
I purchased the PT-AE2000U instead of the Sony VPL-VW60 principally due to the lower price of this projector. My biggest concern in going from CRT was black levels, which is why I was looking at the Sony LCoS projectors. I never expected to even consider an LCD, but I read reviews (at trusted websites) saying this projector compares favorably to the Sony VPL-VW50 and VPL-VW100 in terms of black levels, and is better for color rendition. I was very surprised at the shadow detail and low black level this projector is capable of producing. It's certainly better than I ever expected LCD to achieve, and in the end it was acceptable for me. While shadow detail is great, the lowest attainable black level is definitely not as dark as what I can get on my CRT (NEC XG-85, which I still have set up in my theater for direct image comparisons). I have not compared this projector side-by-side to a Sony LCoS in my theater, so I can't comment on which is better. I am certainly satisfied in every other way with this projector. Color rendition seems perfect, no optical flaws, no screen-door effect at a viewing distance where you can discern 1080p resolution.

Excellent price performance. You can find a better projector but it costs more than 2X before you can see some different. For most consumers, this is an excellent projector, great colors out of the box, reasonable sharp, lot of settings can be tweaked, very quiet fan. The black is not as good as JVC RS2 (one of the best projectors) but it is good enough for most people. The project must be watched in the light controlled room or the colors will be wash-out. My understanding, this applies to all projectors except those cost $50K which have 10K lumen! Panasonic makes one of those expensive projectors (3 chips DLP projectors).
If you buy this projector, your screen should not be bigger than 110 inches or the pictures may be too dim. If you need a big pictures, buy JVC RS2. It costs 2.5X more than Panasonic. IMO, as most electronics, it makes no sense to buy the best. The best will be obsolete in only few months. There is no "perfect projector". So, forget to get a perfect one. If the engineers make the perfect one, nobody will upgrade the projectors in the future. Nobody will/can make a perfect projector. All projectors have the weakest and strength. AE2000U is a great projector for such low price relatively.

I bought the PT-AE2000U one month ago, July 2008. It has surpassed by expectations. For the price I doubt you can find better. The start up time is under 1 min. The picture resolution is very good with Time Warner DVR box using HDMI and fantastic with Blu-Ray. The box is quiet and not hot during operation. The set up is a breeze.
Autofocus works well. I have used it during the day many times when the ambient light is not well controlled and the picture remains good. Of course, not like the picture when the light is minimal. Over all, I am impressed with this product and would recommend it to anyone for a front projector home entertainment system.
