Good Coverage of WW2, Not so of Vietnam,

This review is from: PT Boats at War: World War II to Vietnam (Paperback)
I understand PT boats were not used that much in Vietnam. Still, there was what was referred to as a "Brown Water Navy" which had shallow draft boats that fought up and down rivers in Vietnam. So, why not more coverage of these craft?
The other reason for 4 stars - the book is small - which makes the B&W photos small, and there arent enough line drawings showing the PT boats in various stages of armament. There should also be a few pages of color to show the camoflagues schemes used. More coverage of the tactics should have been included. This is a very good review of the history of PT boats before WW2 and WW2. There are charts covering every boat built, armament, what became of the boat. All theaters are reviewed - PT boats served all over the world in WW2, the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific (where they were most used). A more comprehensive review of PT boats can be found in "American PT Boats in World War II" but it is more expensive. There is also "PT boats in Action" which does have the color this book lacks. I'm glad I have this book as it does touch on post WW2 developments, I just think it could be better. |
