4.0 out of 5 stars Freedom from PC speakers., April 11, 2011

This review is from: Pyle Home PTAU34 Mini 2x75 Watt Stereo Power Amplifier with USB/AUX Inputs (Electronics)
Gone are the days of buying over priced less than overwhelming PC speakers.
As LCD's do not suffer the ill-effect of having large magnets near them like CRT's did there is no limit to the size of speaker you can place right next to your monitor. With that in mind I bought 2 speakers (large for bookshelf/small for floor) and have them sitting on either side of my monitor plugged into this tiny wonder. For the first time ever my Computer speakers produce more volume than I care to hear and are perfectly clear through the full volume spectrum. This unit does exactly what its needed to do without adding a bunch of complicated features I'll never use.

So why not 5 stars?
1/2 a Star was do to the insanely bright lights, I read about them in other reviews but was still not prepared for how bright they are. Black electrical tape and they aren't really a problem.
1/2 a star was lost to the poor sound quality that OCCASIONAlY occurs when using the USB input. Removing the USB drive, and powering off the Amp fixes this, but it would be nice to not have the problem at all.

Other thoughts: I was planning a bit into the future when I bought this. Should I ever blow my speakers or decide to upgrade I wont be limited to the few selections of PC speakers in the computer section but can go right to the home theater section and pick the speakers I want and not the ones I have to settle for.

If you've got some old school "bookshelf" or in-wall speakers in the basement, garage, or on the deck, then this is the perfect item to power them and also play any USB compatible MP3 player or thumb drive*. Has multiple line inputs. Works best with 4 Ohm speakers but can handle 8. With the remote, you can navigate folders as well as tracks. If the kids are visiting, you can also plug in a microphone (not included) for karaoke. Compact and with that "Radio Shack" design aesthetic. It's exactly what I was looking for.
*fat32 formatted, no NTFS.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great construction, but ridiculously bright blinkenlights., October 28, 2010

I bought this amplifier for its simplicity in comparison to most home theater systems. No overly-complicated buttons or remote controls. It works and sounds great with my Sony SS-B1000 5 1/8-Inch Bookshelf Speakers.

My only beef is the ridiculously bright LEDs indicated by other users of Pyle amplifiers. When sitting in a dark room, it's like a lightning strike. Pyle could probably stand to leave these out of future models. If I don't take the unit apart and disconnect them, I'll cover them with electrical tape.

Other than that, it is heavy and well-constructed. No flimsy knobs or buttons on this unit. Would consider buying another Pyle amplifier for other rooms in the house.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does What It's Supposed to Do, January 28, 2012

This does what it's supposed to do.

I just wanted a basic power amplifier that had the four basic controls like this one has.
Although... I bought this thinking this was a USB sound card... stupid me.
The USB port only READS flash drives, HDDs, etc.
But I still will not be returning it.

I've only owned this for a couple of days and I am very content.

And the picture uploaded is a highly exaggerated picture. The light is only slightly brighter than the blue glow of my Razer Deathadder.
