Purchased this watch about a year ago. Came in a neat little box and a thick set of instructions. Ever since, I have only used this watch because its all I have needed.

The heart rate function works perfectly and I have no issues at all. It also has a feature where you can program a min and max heart rate; if you fall or go above said heart rate, it will beep to let you know you have done so. The telemetry strap that is included also works with the gym equipment, e.g. elliptical, and will transmit your heart rate so no need to hold on to grips.

The timer is another sweet feature built into it. Not only can you watch your heart rate from that mode but you can also keep track of how long you have rested in between reps.

All-in-all, I am very pleased with my purchase.

The watch does everything it says it will do and looks damn good doing it. My biggest gripe is that it doesn't have a countdown timer or interval timer, which is annoying since I like to do interval-based workouts. That's primarily what I monitor my heart rate for. It doesn't make sense to me to have all these other features and neglect something as basic as that. I ended up returning mine since I would rather spend my money on an HR monitor that can do everything I need rather than using two different devices. If that's not a concern for you and you just want something to give you an accurate heart rate reading, then this will do you well. It's also handsome enough to wear on a regular basis, which is an added bonus given the way most HR monitors look.

I would recommend this watch to a friend, here is why:

1. It seems to perform the heart rate function accurately. In the time i have started running(about 5 weeks, 24 yr. male), my resting heart rate has dropped about 20 bpm on average to about 70-75. I would say low 90's was where I started, but upper 90's with stressful days at work was possible. I had been smoking cigarettes for 5 years on and off, so it seemed fairly accurate. My heartrate during runs has dropped to about 173, when I started it could get up to nearly 190, or average 185 when pushing myself for times. Maybe the heart rate is ~10bpm, but it seems to be dropping based on my activity levels, so it is a good reference point. I can tell my heartrate drops a lot faster then it used to after runs, so that is cool to see as well.

I wet the heart-rate chest strap with my water bottle before i run and have not had any problems with the signal it sends to the watch whatsoever.

2. You can see your heart rate when you use the stopwatch function.

3. It seems well made, durable, and I hope it lasts for a while with good care.

4. Great price

Here are a few cons that give it only 4 stars:

1. It said 5 atm water capapbility on the website, which means the watch can be submerged very deep, but when you open the box, it says 5 bar and there is a chart that says you shouldn't even take it in the shower so swimming is out also. I didn't need this watch for that, but they should change the description, if it hasnt already been done. Makes it so you can't run with this watch in the rain, which is also kind of annoying.

2. The lap time function only pauses the watch for about 7 seconds for you to look at the time, then it keeps counting up. You cannot go look at the lap times after you run, you would have to remember it. This seems silly, most stopwatches can remember lap times.

3. Maybe the Hi and Low heartbeat zones are useful for interval training, but if you are a jogger/runner, keeping 70-90% running speed, these zones will just annoy you, so I leave the sound off for my runs now.

Conclusion:

If you don't want to spend an extra $50 for a heart rate watch with more capabilities, this is the right watch for you. I wanted GPS function, but with that costing an extra $120 more on avg. then this ~50 dollar watch so I chose this and am happy with my decision. I can gauge my heart rate and time my runs, I'm satisfied.

It would be great if you add in BP reader. While running can take BP reading. A very nice invention.

I like this watch, very durable and works like it is supposed to. Looks pretty good too. I wish it had come with pulse sensor that goes around your chest or had the pulse sensor in the watch.

I actually wanted a woman's watch but there is none available, so I thought I'd just try men's and I am more than satisfied after a day's experience. I just got the watch yesterday.

The pulse function didn't work. Watch and Chrono functions worked but never was able to get the pulse function working from the watch or the strap. Decided to try the Omron HR-210 and it works perfectly.

When I travel I like to bring a heart monitor to use when working out away from home. I have been bringing my Garmin 305 bike computer but I have to bring the charger and it is a little bulky for travel. The Puma watch, heart monitor is accurate, comfortable and easy to use. It does not make a fashion statement but neither do I.
