4.0 out of 5 stars Dimensions
When I was looking at these I couldn't find dimensions for them anywhere so I thought I'd put them out here. I just used a tape measure on the one I bought so I'm sure these are not precisely right but they are reasonably close. By all means if anyone has better measurements please feel free to correct me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pitcher Leaks after Minimal Use
We had this less than 10 months and used only two of three Ultimate filters we purchased separately, that's how little use this pitcher got. Started leaking everywhere one day and I couldn't figure out what had happened. I thought I hadn't put the innards back in right, after changing the filter, but in the end I decided either a seal or a seam failed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dimensions, March 23, 2004

When I was looking at these I couldn't find dimensions for them anywhere so I thought I'd put them out here. I just used a tape measure on the one I bought so I'm sure these are not precisely right but they are reasonably close. By all means if anyone has better measurements please feel free to correct me.

Inches:
Base: (oval) 8.5 x 5.75 (the handle adds about 1.5 to the overall legnth, for a "total unit legnth" of about 10".)
Height: 10.75

Metric (just converted from the above measurements):
Base: 21.6cm x 14.6cm (+ 3.8cm for handle, totalling 25.4cm)
Height: 27.3cm

In short, it is rather large as pitchers go and does take up a bit of fridge space.

Something else that is hardly ever mentioned is that the filters are not intended to be used with hot water. The manual indicates a maximum temperature of 82F/28C. I believe this is typical of drinking water filters (I know there was a similar maximum on the faucet-mount I used to have), I'm just putting that out here for general information.

It does take a while for the water to work its way through the filter. To me that's to be expected, the water is just draining through the filter with no real pressure to push it. I suppose some people might grow impatient with that.

To me it is a rather attractive unit. My sister even commented on how "nice" it was when she saw it. The lid includes a hinged cover over the spout (it just opens itself when you pour), that's a nice little touch.

Overall I'm happy with it. It's an alternative for those of us who like filtered water and don't want to use the various mounted units for whatever reason.

I have received many a compliment about this pitcher since I started using it. One guest lamented that it put her Britta filter to shame.

If you are willing to sacrifice a little room in your refrigerator, then this filtering pitcher is one that you should consider. The filter does a very good job at removing odd and chlorine tastes from the water. The difference between my tap water which has a strong chlorine taste and the filtered water is like night and day. Plus PUR filters have been highly rated by Consumer Reports in the past.

The only con of this filter is the sloping shape of the pitcher when you add more water. The instructions advise that you fill the water up to a line which is clearly visible on the side of the pitcher. The reason is that the gauge which indicates when the filter needs to be replaced must key off of the number of times you add water and not the volume. However, when I fill the water to the line, I have found that it is very easy to spill water back into a little opening at the back of the picture where the water then stays until I use a cloth to get it out.

Please note that if you do buy the pitcher, pay close attention to the bottom of the instructions when it comes time to take the filter apart to clean it. I found the pitcher to be difficult to take apart until I noticed the fine print at the bottom of the instructions which explained how the pitcher came apart.

Overall a great choice if you are in the market for a new water filter.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pitcher Leaks after Minimal Use, July 6, 2005

We had this less than 10 months and used only two of three Ultimate filters we purchased separately, that's how little use this pitcher got. Started leaking everywhere one day and I couldn't figure out what had happened. I thought I hadn't put the innards back in right, after changing the filter, but in the end I decided either a seal or a seam failed.

I'm not the first person to report the leaking problem with minimal use, so I believe it is a design or manufacturing flaw. What a waste of a good $60, with the additional three filters purchased.

While it worked, we loved its sleek design, how much water it held and how great the water tasted. That's why it gets the two stars I gave it. Too bad it turned out to be a piece of junk.

I see the item is now not available here at Amazon and I guess that means someone monitored the returns or complaints about the product and made changes or pulled the item from sales rotation.

What I want to know is when we will be notified by Pur about the problem, and given coupons or rebates because of it; if you sent in your warranty card or registered the product online there is no reason Pur couldn't offer somehting in exchange for their poorly designed item.

Mine's now in the trash where it belongs. Don't buy one if you are considering it. Go with a good quality, faucet-mounted or under-sink mount filtering system and you will be glad you did, despite the more expensive price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Family sized water-filter pitcher, February 25, 2006
This review is from: PUR CR900Z 9-Cup Pitcher (Kitchen)
This is the best designed water filter I have ever used! It looks great and does the best job possible filtering water. But that's not all. It is large enough to fill a family full of water glasses. It pours and refills easily. And the pitcher manages its top heavy load of newly filled water by having a wider base. So you can't tip it over easily while the water is filtering through. But best of all, it is designed so that the upper compartment of still filtering water is sealed! This lets you pour the filtered water out without the still filtering water above dribbling into your glass. An unequaled feat in any other pitcher style water filter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Now I'm completely satisfied., January 30, 2005

I had originally bought this pitcher several years ago. In fact, I bought two of them, both of which cracked easily and subsequently developed leaks. I had to throw both of them out and had gone back to a Brita filter.

Then Pur came out with a different, higher quality plastic for the pitcher, and this time they got it right. I've had it for over a year now without cracks or leaks.

I still find I can't depend on the orange indication about when to change the filter, but that's a minor point. Now that the health benefits and attractive design of the pitcher are complemented by my ability to use it on a day-to-day basis, I'm very satisfied with it. Recommended!

Great Water! That is why it got a 2...otherwise it would have receive a 0.

I DO love the look of that pitcher...but every one I have seen leaks after just a month or two...it leaks from the bottom seal and that is what makes it worthless. I thought that I could just replace it and get a new one and it would be ok...it did the same thing....3 times in a row...good thing I only paid for it once. I have a friend that replaced hers after the same issue and her second one did the same thing. I gave up on this and looking for another picture.

ATTN PUR Company!!!! Fix the leaking issue and I will come running back to buy a new one.

I got this pitcher about 5 months ago and sure enough I ran into the same leaking problems like everyone else. I should have checked up on this pitcher before the purchase from Target. Good thing my mom bought it and not me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible performance, May 23, 2006
This review is from: PUR CR900Z 9-Cup Pitcher (Kitchen)
I have this filter only for about 3 months and it is already leaking on the seams. I crazy glued it and it works while I'm waiting for a new system from Aquafana. Although the water tastes great, it takes about 30 minutes to filter the reservoir. I would not recommeded for anyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Plastic cracks!, September 26, 2004

Although it is true that the filter itself produces great tasting water. I have now had two, yes two, of the pitchers crack at the base causing it to leak. Find an alternative.

I love water filters, this perhaps is my third, first was a Brita, gave to family member years ago and it is still in use, went on to faucet style but prefer pitchers, then to this Ultra. This pitcher leaks, I suspect it is the style, leak is not big-time, but pitcher will have to be replaced wayyyy too soon in a household where there is no rough treatment of kitchen items. I am NOT happy.
