The PUR Difference

MAXION Technology is PUR's unique formulation approach for blending carbon and ion exchange materials for maximum contaminant reduction.

Clean drinking water is the foundation of good health. PUR water filters with MAXION Technology turn your ordinary tap water into clean, fresh-tasting drinking water.

How our Filters Works

PUR activated carbon filters are made from coconut shells, which are 'heat treated' with steam. This produces pores within each grain of carbon, creating tiny tunnels and spaces, 1,000 square meters of surface area per gram of carbon.

That's approximately 200,000 square feet of nooks and crannies to absorb and trap the contaminants in your tap water in each PUR faucet filter.

Why Filter?

Remove Contaminants - PUR water filters reduce many contaminants found in tap water, including trace levels of pharmaceuticals.

Health Benefits - The human body averages approximately 60% water and all of its systems depend on it to function properly.

Our Environment - As our demand on natural resources grows, so does our responsibility to make a difference. By switching from bottled water to PUR faucet filtered water, you'll get 400 gallons of clean filtered water a year—which is like making thousands of plastic water bottles disappear.

So this is my second PUR water filter mount. Both were this same model. Right out of the package they work great. It's not entirely necessary as our water is already clean out of the faucet, but it does remove any particulates that may reside in the distribution piping and home piping, as well as removing the chlorine residual that is in most tap water. After about a year, coincidentally just as the one year warranty expires, the valve that bridges between the faucet and the filter begins to degrade. Now even when the filter is turned off, water still flows through the valve and through the filter thereby dramatically decreasing the lifespan of the filter since water is always flowing through it. This is a POOR engineering design that should have been addressed by this company. This is the reason why I'm giving it one star. I figured my first filter was just a fluke, but this problem was confirmed yet again on my second filter.

My recommendation:
1) Go for a faucet mount that you don't have to physically turn to activate. I feel that the repetitive action of turning this up and down multiple times a day leads to premature fatigue of this product.
2) Don't worry so much about ancillary features like lights, etc. The filter is what you should be concerned about since this is what is polishing your water.
3) Look for NSF Certification. NSF 42 is for aesthetic effects. Even better is the NSF 53 is for removing health related contaminants. NSF 58 is for reverse osmosis filters which removes even more chemicals than the 53, however I feel this is a bit overkill for a home filter.
4) Go for a product that has at least a 3 year warranty. That way you don't have to keep spending $30+/- every year on the same darn product.

PUR Water Filter Review \ Hack

Once, long ago, PUR was a great company with great water filtering technology. I still love their filters! Unfortunately, a big bad company named Proctor and Gamble bought them and messed them over in favor of customer abuse. This was accomplished using two methods. The first method is called 'planned obsolescence' whereby their faucet mount apparatus leak and die briefly after the end of the warranty period. (It didn't used to be that way in the good old days). The second method is called 'timed death' whereby their apparatus lock up their enclosed filters at a preset volume of filtered water, whether the filter is actually used up or not.

Planned obsolescence can be overcome by calling up Proctor and Gamble BEFORE your warranty runs out, and letting them know that your PUR apparatus is squirting water all over your kitchen. Ask them to send you a replacement or a replacement certificate. If need be, call repeatedly asking to speak to the President of P&G, never taking 'no' for an answer. Then take your certificate and get another PUR apparatus. This will provide you with a lifetime for the apparatus more representative of the lifetime of original PUR apparatus. You've cheated no one. P&G's cheat on you has been overcome.

The timed death lockout of your filter is extremely easy to overcome. Pull out the filter from the apparatus. This resets the nasty timing device to zero again. Put your filter back in. TADA! You're done. Your filter will work as before. Note, however, that PUR filters do eventually get clogged with stuff. You'll know when to change it.

I hope that helps everyone restore goodness to the universe. I still love PUR filters better than any other brand and wouldn't be without them. It's P&G's customer abuse that's not worth liking. Shame on you P&G.

I've been a previous owner of a faucet mount PUR filter that lasted for over 4 years before it finally broke. I purchased this particular model thinking that it would also last, but I was disappointed. A couple of months later, it deveolped a hairline crack just below the filter indicator. I thought I just might have accidentally hit the housing, so I purchased the same model again. Well, this same crack appeared, and now I have contacted P&G. I am seriously thinking of purchasing a different brand.

We redesigned the Faucet Mount units and they now have quite a few upgrades and are much easier to install, remove and replace the filter. The newer ONE CLICK version has been on the market since July 2010 and is getting great feedback.

I have used PUR faucet mount filter systems for years. They have always had some problems with leaking. This model seems to leak less than the other models I have purchased over the years. Upon initial installation the device worked well enough for about a week when it popped off the faucet and would not allow reinstallation perhaps due to stripped plastic threads on the faucet adapter. Upon calling PUR, I was told they are aware of the issue with the plastic threaded 'type A' faucet adapter and offered to send me a new 'metal threaded' adapter free of charge. The new adapter arrived in about a week and I have not had any problems since installing it. If you order this product and use the 'type A' faucet adapter, I suggest you call for a replacement adapter as soon as your order arrives, if the shipped adapter does not have metal threads. That way you will have the fix quickly available if/when the plastic threaded 'type A' adapter fails. PUR told me the products being manufactered now are shipped with the metal threaded adapter, but many retailers have older stock that were made before the adapter issue was discovered.
