2.0 out of 5 stars Not Longlasting
The filters lasted 2 weeks. I did not drink 100 gallons of water during that time. The Filter suppose to last 2 or 3 months or 100 gallons, whichever comes first. Not true.

Here's a trick that they probably don't want you to know about.. When your filter stops working, it isn't because the filter itself stopped working. It's because the mechanism inside the filter housing has clicked all the way over and stopped the water flow. If you think your water still tastes good and it probably did right before it stopped flowing on you.. Simply remove the filter like you were going to install a new one.. and the mechanism in the housing resets, then reinstall the filter.

Now you can extend the filter until you wish to replace it. I would recommend replacing it eventually though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Complain, April 12, 2009

These 2 stages are great. I used to smell metal and chlorine but now NOTHING! I usually buy from Target where they are $14 each, so the price is better here. They also usually have a little of the red indicator already showing, but not these from Amazon. I cant say how many gallons Ive gotten but I would say a couple months pass before I change it. I never feel like, 'Boy I just changed this thing'. I use it for all cooking, tea, washing vegetables and I drink lots of water everyday. Most of the reviews for the 3-stage complain about low water pressure and not lasting very long but I dont have that issue with these 2-stage. As ususal new does not mean better. Even though the 3-stage is cheaper I would suggest investing in the 2-stage as it will pay off in the end.

I've used the Stage 3 filter, but decided to save some money on another faucet and switched to the Stage 2 filter. There might be a difference in how clean the water is, but taste wise I can't tell. This item shipped quickly, safely, and works as it should.

These PUR replacement filters worked as advertised, and one month later, I'm still using the first of the two water filters. The water filter is saving my family money because we're buying 1/4 of the bottled water we did before, and refilling the empty bottles at least two times (experts don't recommend the long-term reuse of plastic water bottles) and saving money on redemption fees. I highly recommend this product.

I made the switch from bottled water to filtered faucet water. I have no real complaints. Water from the filter tastes better than faucet water, but not as good as bottled water, which is acceptable to me. My wife still uses bottled, but the kids and I use the filtered. I don't know if I am saving money overall using the filtered over the bottled, because now I use the filtered water for things like making coffee, cooking, kids drinking water, etc., whereas I previously used plain faucet water for all of those uses. Saves me from lugging in all those gallons of water, though. Overall, I'm glad I made the switch.

UPDATE: After about seven months of use, the filter housing PUR FM-3333 2-Stage Vertical Mount Faucet Filter System, White cracked and started leaking. I have ordered another. I did not let this affect my rating of the filter itself, as the water coming out tastes fine. However, I see that quite a few people have had problems with the filter housing.

the PUR filters are great for filtering out impurities, and actually help reduce some of the odors that otherwise would keep me from using tap water. I even notice a difference even when making coffee or tea. Replacement filters are reasonable in price.

This is an excellent value, as a single pack is only a few dollars less in discount retailers such as Target.

We are "Water snobs." Yes, I admit it - we are. Brita in the fridge, bottle water in the fridge, water service at work, and water filter on our faucet. I'm too cheap for the "whole house" solution the soft water people want to install.

I like cold water and I don't like ice, so I don't use this product for drinking water - except when we have guests. I don't share my bottled water with them. (Did I mention I'm a water snob?)

Okay, I use this mainly for cooking. If I am cooking something where the water quality makes a difference, then I use my Pur. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but that's another story.

Anyway, we don't use this product too much but it seems like we are changing the filters a whole lot. Within 3 weeks of getting the product the first filter was dead. Kind of surprised me since we hardly used it. A cup here and there shouldn't use up a filter.

Also, the "little dial" which turns it on and off gets moved way too easily. If you barely touch the thing it turns the Pur on and you switch over to filtered. Not great if you are doing the dishes or filling up a big pot of water. It is VERY sensitive so I find myself turning it off a lot.

Besides these things, it isn't bad - it filters water.

Pro

Cheaper than a whole-house soft water kit.

Easy to install

Filters are easily replaced

It filters water like it's supposed to (at least it tastes okay.)

Convenient on your sink

Cons

Turns on too easily

Uses filters too fast (and the filters are expensive!)

There you go! When this one breaks I will shop around before I buy my next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars The problems are fixable., May 28, 2011
This review is from: PUR ClassicClear Faucet Mount Refill RF-3375, 2 Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
The difference between a 2 stage and a 3 stage is that the 3 stage adds minerals back into the water. This makes better tasting drinking water. I really don't know how this affects the taste of coffee, or what it might do to the coffee maker. (I use them anyway). The "Filtration Systems"(housings) are a little problematic. I have owned several over the (many, many) years, and have had pieces of the outer facade fall off (even brand new ones). However, these can be glued back on. I recently had one to leak a little through the indicator window, after about 2 years. The complete system (with two refills) is frequently on sale for the price of just the refills. I had picked one of these up last year, so no problem. In the past I have called pur about defects, and they gladly replaced them. And yes, you can get a little extra life from a cartridge by removing and re-installing it. (I'm doing so now). This will do until a replacement is found. (That's why I'm here today).
