Pyramids is a Masterpiece!,

I have listened to the "Atmosphere" channel on "Music Choice" via digital cable for the past 4 months. Since I am an author and writer, I enjoy the ambient music found there as background for my creative work. Every once in a while, I run over to the TV set to see what is playing. I cannot tell you how many times the name "Pat Thomi - Pyramids" appears on my sceen. I finally bought the CD on Amazon and it arrived today. This CD is not jazz, not "new age", and not "sound effects", but rather music of the highest order. Music will sweep you away, and allow you to think... but also music of a quality that will make you listen, as well. It is mesmerizing, haunting, majestic, intense, and even romantic. I have now played this CD 5 times this evening, and I know I will be playing it again tomorrow. Pat Thomi is making some very different and much needed sonic masterpieces it seems, and I am going to look forward to being a huge fan of his! One word for this CD is simply "WOW"!

Deep Ambient Atmospheric Jazz,

Wow! This is a really excellent CD! I first received a copy of this CD for airplay on a radio program in Alaska. (I've since bought additional copies for friends). At first I was skeptical. The label was "Blue Blimp Records". Hmmm. Then I played the CD. The pieces start out like somewhat typical, yet well-done, ambient atmospheric music. But then...but then... the miracle occurs. A subtle groove appears, then the guitar glides in and the piece transforms into a wonder of artful abstract melodies layered over sublime electronic atmospheres. I really cannot describe how really excellent this CD is. I have played tracks from "Pyramids" many times on Nightlight, a late night music program on public radio oin Alaska. The response is always excellent, with calls coming in from listeners of all ages and backgrounds. It must be wonderful for the artist to know that he has produced a truly sucessful musical experience.

one of my all time favorites,

This C.D. is very enchanting, I never heard anything like it,if you like "new age" and "guitar" music you will love it. I found it to be relaxing but also powerful at the same time. Pyramids "hence the name" has a middle eastern feel to it, I find the style refreshing. Every person I let listen to it also thought the same as I do. Wonderful stuff, thank you Pat Thomi.

EXCELLENT!!! The best ambient guitar ensemble I have ever heard. Go to www.live365.com and listen to The Cosmic Island to get a glimpse of the music. It is a true shame this CD is not available. Request a new press of this absolutely excellent compilation.http://www.patthomi.com/

Mindless Pablum,

I purchased this CD based on the two glowing reviews before mine. I was expecting some wonderful guitar work blended and layered with synth/ambient music. This album runs 54 minutes over five tracks, and all of them are almost identical in structure and content. This is not ambient electronic "jazz" in any way, shape or form. To the contrary, it is meditative drivel; totally mindless aural wallpaper. Each track begins with droning, atmospheric synth that never rises above a whisper. About two minutes into each track, Thomi begins plucking strings on his guitar with a horrible simplistic monotony, sounding exactly as though it were recorded inside the King's Chamber of the pyramid at Giza. He is the George Winston of the guitar. There is no discernable difference between tracks. At least Winston tries to vary his piano pieces. What Thomi lacks in writing imaginative music, he tries to make up with electronic puffery and echo effects. If you're looking for a CD that will help you meditate, this CD is for you. If you're looking for some innovative music with accomplished guitar, look elsewhere. "Pyramids" is a complete snore.
