Which brings me to Namco, who has had a very similar struggle to reinvent Pac-Man, its flagship character for over 30 years. You name the genre, there's been a game with his bright, rounded face on the cover. Yet, with the exception of a string of great 3D platformers about a decade ago, and some wonderfully trippy Championship Edition entries, the old dog has relied mainly on ports and retreads to survive, while his wife has been a permanent fixture in bowling alleys, laundromats, and bars the world over (along with Galaga, of course.)
So it's fitting then, that these two struggles collide headfirst in "Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures", an attempt to reboot the character inside of a 3D platformer. The result is a refreshingly uncynical romp that hearkens back to the early 2000's, when a game didn't have to do anything more than be a game. Surprisingly, in today's cutthroat world of people criticizing games for not having enough "emotion", this carefree formula delivers in spades.
There's not much here in the way of narrative, but for formality's sake, here's the basic set-up.Read more ›
Thought it'd just be a goofy game like the T.V. show.
Found out I like it a lot more than the new cartoon. The play style is just like the ORIGINAL PS1 Spyro Games (the Insomniac Trilogy, you know, before Universal took it away from Insomniac and the franchise went to crap).
I just love it. If you know what the original Spyro games are like, you know what this game is like.
One major difference graphically - the colors don't give me a splitting migraine (it's true, Spyro gives me a terrible headache after I play on it for a while). The colors are nicely diffused but still bright and enjoyable.
Grab this game, young or old, if you are a fan of this type of gameplay.
Edit: Thought I'd give an update - I just beat this game. The ending may be considered lacking by some, but it had me laughing my butt off. If you know the cartoon, you'd enjoy the humor. The bosses are also very easy, that's alright for me, I enjoyed the game. The game is definitely geared towards kids. My only complaint is the controls for the balloon form are lacking. Thankfully the devs put a ton of save spots all over the place to compensate.
Still 4-5 stars.
The graphics are beautiful and the difficulty it's like that of Mario 64. I love the game and would highly recommend this title to any Pac-man fan. It sure is a welcoming title for younger generations but the whole family would enjoy it.
The graphics are great and the soundtrack fits nicely throughout the levels again though it plays almost exactly like a Mario game so if you have played those games you'll feel a sense of deja vu though don't let that turn you away from this game overall it's still a fun one. So for fans of the Pac-Man and looking for a new game here's one to take a look at.
Audience: This is a game for a general audience (ages 8 to 100).
Pace: Those who are more experienced Gamers may find the pace a bit slow.
Violence Level: This is a mild game.
Environment: The environment is colorful and not complicated.
While there were a few parts that took some trial and error to figure out, this game is not challenging to anyone who has played through most of any recent Mario title. This game heavily borrows elements from them, but executes them poorly. I would save this game exclusively for kids 8-12, as it is too simple for an older crowd but not simple enough for the really little ones (few games these days are). I'm 25 years old and really enjoy Mario titles, so I decided to pick this up for some change, since reviewers kept comparing the two. Bad idea, I played through it in three sittings with ease. Does not have any of the challenging elements or re-playability as its Nintendo counterparts. The game looks really nice, but considering it's a tie-in to a TV show, I would hope so. But even decent graphics don't save the repetitive level designs and esthetics. The levels in each world are made up of all the same ingredients, so telling them apart just by looking at them is virtually impossible. This made the game get boring quickly since the gameplay and visuals barely changed. At the end of the day, it was still better than playing some lame mobile game (Flappy Bird, Angry Birds, Candy Crush, etc.) but does not come close to being as fun as a popular console title. I don't so much regret the purchase as I do regret paying as much as I did for it. For someone looking to play through a quick platformer on a lazy weekend or inbetween good titles, I say pick this up for ten dollars, but don't expect much. It was nice to see Pac and friends looking so good and to hear those legendary sound effects from the original arcade title, but nostalgia doesn't save this title from being what it really is, a budget kiddie title that is best saved for the little ones.

The game will freeze consistently at various points in the level, making it difficult to progress in the game. The graphics are less than stellar for a Wii U title. Read morePublished 3 months ago by chris2011
