This review is from: Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness (Video Game)
Ms Pac Man: Maze Madness was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004. It's the same game that came out for the Nintendo 64 and Sega Dreamcast years before. Though it's a port, it's a good game that is identical to the console versions and perfect for anyone who grew up playing Pac Man/Ms Pac Man games.
You control Ms Pac Man in overhead/quasi 3D-like mazes where the object is to get from one point of the maze to the other. You face off against enemies to clobber (and you can defeat them if you want.) Old favorites like the ghosts return to chase you while mummies, soldiers and monsters are here to stand in your way. Solving puzzles is essential to moving further into the maze while usually requires you to collect keys, move blocks or blow them up using TNT crates. Because it's a Ms Pac Man game, you eat pellets scattered throughout the mazes, including the big power pellets which lets you eat the ghosts and other enemies. To move on to the next maze, you need to earn one star (out of a possible 4.) These stars come into play as if you collect all 4 from all the mazes, you unlock bonus mazes. Every time you finish a maze, you have the chance to save your progress and the game gives you 3 separate slots. The PROS: This game is an exact port of the N64/Dreamcast version so you won't miss out on anything if you don't have them or played this before. Namco did an excellent job with the graphics, sound effects and music. You will have no problems controlling Ms. Pac Man since the controls are simple and work as you want them to. There are plenty of mazes to go through so you will be kept busy. And since earning extra stars unlocks bonus mazes, there is an incentive to do this. Connect with 3 other GBA owners to take advantage of the multi-player modes so that adds re-playability to this game. The CONS: While the mazes offer different themes, you don't do anything other than trying to complete the maze so it gets repetitive after a while. This game is more pick up and play and then come back again to resume. Also, figuring out how to get past some puzzles and/or finding every item can be a little tough though not impossible. Overall, this is a good game to have in your game collection. While it gets repetitive and can be tough at times, it is fun to play and worth getting. New or used, you can't go wrong with Ms. Pac Man so give it a shot.
