4.0 out of 5 stars a pleasant surprise
While I liked "Pac-Pix" at first, the replay value has been considerably low. There's just not much to the game, and if I hadn't bought this ("Pac'N Roll") on a whim, I would have never done so based on how lackluster "Pac-Pix" was.

3.0 out of 5 stars great game
this is a great remake of the arcade version of pac man, and it is fun to play. You can either play the upgraded pac 'n roll version, or you can play the classic arcade game. The arcade version is a little hard but it is fun to play.

While I liked "Pac-Pix" at first, the replay value has been considerably low. There's just not much to the game, and if I hadn't bought this ("Pac'N Roll") on a whim, I would have never done so based on how lackluster "Pac-Pix" was.

But "Pac'N Roll" is perfect for platformer junkies. Remember that big fad after "Mario 64"? All of those copy cat games on the N64 or Playstation? Well, even when they got bad reviews, I knew I'd enjoy them. They're basic and somewhat generic, but still tremendous fun for me because I just love the genre so much.

"Pac'N Roll" is like one of those. There's not much to it. But it has great controls, nice graphics and a heck of a lot more replay value than "Pac-Pix."

In it, you get a lame story about how all the Pac People are turned into balls that roll around. Pac Man has to save the day from a rock 'n roll alien or something, blah blah blah. And then you get to control the little guy.

It's fun! I was skeptical mainly because of how similar in control technique it is to "Pokemon Dash," but it's miles ahead in terms of fun and comfort. You just move the stylus over the bottom screen in the direction you want, and you'll move in that direction.

The camera angle is always great, and you can manually move it around using the direction pad. Nice.

There's not many enemies, and the few levels go by somewhat fast. But you get a chance to complete each level in three different ways, so you'll be coming back for awhile.

All in all, a fine platformer for those who like the genre. In fact, it's much more easier to control than "Mario 64 DS" because it was MADE for the system. It's not quite as fun or long, but it's easily one of the best 3D platformers on the system right now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, most of the time, April 11, 2006

This review is from: Pac 'n Roll (Video Game)
This game is the only game I have ever played that has so much replay value, besides Meele. I'll write shot reviews about the parts of the game

Story: 1/5
Very stupid. All of the Pac people turn into balls, blah blah, you will just have to wait till the ridiculous story is done

Levels: 4/5
All of the levels are great. My favoruite world is 4, gosht land. The problem with this game, is that it dosn't really get hard until you get to World 5, the second last level. I also think they could have made the levels a little bit longer. Oh well, not a big deal.

Unlockables: 4/5
There isn't much to unlock, but the original Pac-Man. It's great until you go to the middle of the level than your'e split in 2! That dosn't make sense at all!

Graphics: 5/5
Good enough to play.

Other stuff:
For once, the camera works well, until World 5 when things start to speed up. It is really fun controlling/rolling Pac Man around, eating monsters, pellets, and crashing into boxes.

Overall: 4.9/5
This is a great DS game. Once you get to the final boss level, it's extremmly hard. I still havn't beat, but I intend to soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars A new Spin on Pac Man, August 29, 2005

The best way for me to describe this game is to say it's a cross between Monkey Ball and Marble Madness. If you've played either one, you may feel (as I do) that trying to control your character/player can be frustratingly difficult at times. But, thanks to the touch screen of the Nintendo DS, this problem is (almost) eliminated.
You play as Pac-Man, who has been turned into a ball by the evil ghost Golvis. Your goal is to your way through each of the levels collecting as many pellets as you can (you'll need to meet a certain quota of pellets to move past check-point gates to progress through the level). Each level is a 3D-ish world (sort of like what you would see in SuperMarioDS), but from more of an overhead perspective. The camera angels are distanced a bit back from Pac Man - which allows you to get just enough of a feel for your environment and see what's coming up in the distance. There are some problems with the camera at times but this was very infrequent and it's nothing I felt hampered the gameplay (at least not yet, I've only cleared through 3 full levels).
The speed that this game moves at is handled pretty nicely by the DS, and the way you control Pac Man is pretty forgiving. All movement is handled nicely by the bottom screen of the DS: you'll be turning, jumping, stopping & speeding pretty quickly- the longer your pen-stroke, the longer Pac Man rolls and a simple tap of the screen brings Pac Man to a dead-stop.

Once you clear a level you will still have replay value: you can go back to get the best time or make sure you've collected every single pellet, or clear a level with certain criteria (example: clear the board without eating any ghosts, or eating all ghosts). Meeting these certain conditions can earn you Jewels & collecting a certain number of Jewels will allow you to unlock & play the original Pac-Man game.

The graphics are not the most detailed, but they are bright and clear. The levels are enjoyable- each one has it's own unique theme. I found the controls a cinch to pick-up on. The background music is acceptable- nothing too memorable or annoying. However- the voices, or attempt at voices, are merely baby-type-much...the ghosts and pac man sound like the parents from a Peanuts cartoon on helium. (Trust me- the pseudo-voices are TERRIBLE). Since the voices are my only gripe with the game, I can manage. (But I do with that they would have included a couple more levels). I recommend this one for Pac Man fans (it has the original game you can unlock), and it's another DS game that uses the touch screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great surprise, November 26, 2005

Maybe I should have given a 4 stars but i was so surprised how well this game was. While the game on certain levels goes quick it is very fun controlling Pac Man using the touch pad. I think the DS is hitting it's prime as more and more games are using the touch pad as a actual part of the game and not a gimmick. The game starts of really easy which helps you get use to the controls. The game picks up from there and gets harder but at the same time fun......

I really like this game. I have played it over 100 times already, and I have beaten it alot of times. It is so much better than Super Mario 64 DS because the controls are way easier. I also like the graphics because they remind me of Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie. I also like the fact that you can unlock the original Pac-Man arcade game. I have played it, and it brings back a few memories. Overall, I think that this is a fun game, and it is definitely a must-have for your DS collection. I hope that they come out with a sequel to this game because I think that would be cool.
