1.0 out of 5 stars Consistently terrible, and with poor support, November 15, 2010
This review is from: Pace iLok - Universal USB Licence Authorization Dongle (Personal Computers)
Unfortunately I've had to use iLok for over a year now. Sometimes it works like it's supposed to, but most of the time when dealing with new software I've gotten errors like this one:
"One or more iLok operations failed to complete. Affected iLoks cannot be used with iLok . com until this recovery process is completed.
The task cannot be retried. Please use the iLok troubleshooter to resolve this issue."

Submitting a support request results in an automated message:
"...Please note that if your question is answered by the support resources on iLok . com, you may only receive this automated reply."

And then there's the wait until the issue is -hopefully- resolved.
In the past year I've had the problem with software from Waves, MacDSP, and now Line 6. In this last case I may just return the software to Amazon. Everything goes smoothly (e.g., installation, getting the licenses) until iLok comes into play.

iLok is a terrible product and I prefer to support companies that rely on other security mechanisms. In theory it is not that bad, but in practice it has been a nightmare.

Another problem, although it was irrelevant in my situation, is that in my iLok I could not replace an old software license that I got for free with a new license that I bought. It's irrelevant since I received an upgrade to the newest version of that license, but it's still worth mentioning. There's no way to delete licenses -even from demos- unless you have a second iLok and transfer those licenses into it. Awful.

1.0 out of 5 stars iLok is a license to steal. Complain to the companies that use it !!, January 1, 2010
This review is from: Pace iLok - Universal USB Licence Authorization Dongle (Personal Computers)
Pace (which produces the iLok) is a totally lame company with a totally lame product with MINIMAL and NEGATIVE customer support. Whoever buys a product that requires an iLok should complain bitterly to the company that does so. You will become a slave to a third-party (Pace) that doesn't give a damn about you because you are CAPTIVE! My iLok died (literally) and, of course, so did my iLok-dependent app (AutoTune). After an entire afternoon wasted on iLok's impossibly confusing "support" site, I finally got an RMA ONLY AFTER PAYING THEM $50 FOR A REPLACEMENT!!! Forget talking to a human at Pace. There aren't any. It's just a money machine.
