This review is from: Pachanga at the Caravana Club (Audio CD)
Contrary to what its title and cover artwork may imply, this album is not a live recording. This was one of many albums which Charlie Palmieri recorded for Al Santiago's Alegre Records label during the 1960s and what puts it in a class by itself is that the Pachanga (a Latin dance craze which can best be described as a frenetically paced Charanga) is the predominant style. In many ways, this album takes you back in time to late 1950s or early 1960s New York when the Pachanga was really hot. On a historical note, the Caravana Club was a very popular nightclub in the Bronx at the time of this album's release. I would have liked to give this CD a 4-star rating but the poor sound quality is really annoying. Let's hope that a PROPERLY remastered version is made available in the future.
