5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE!!!!!, October 31, 2004
By
This review is from: Pacheco Y Su Charanga (Audio CD)
Ok! There are thousands of great Afro-Caribbean recordings out there but this one by Johnny Pacheco is an absolute, "Gotta Have". Every tune is a smoker. Pacheco is at the very peak of his powers and so are the other musicians. When released, this recording was in every single Puerto Rican and Cuban household in New York City, Puerto Rico and Cuba. It was also the very first release by the now defunct Alegre Recording Co. and it is still played at parties and nightclubs to this day. Check out the last track, "Tema de Pacheco" it is an descarga and is OUTSTANDING. The Late Chombo Silva takes a scorching violin solo that has not aged at all. A Classic!!! Very Highly Recommended!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Origen de la Fania, May 19, 2001

Johnny Pacheco, who later co-founded La Fania, is exquisite in his early work (mid 1960's). The flute arrangements are outstanding, with a mambo twist that is hard to put down. Pacheco would serve as a prelude of later talent to emerge such as the great Fania regulars. A must-have for any "salsa vieja" lover...
