5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Baroque
This is a beautiful album! One I have enjoyed since I was a child. Despite the fact that Canon is "condensed" (and it's still a beautiful arrangement), the CD as a whole contains some of the most professionally-sounding baroque music I've ever heard, not to mention it contains both popular and "rare" pieces. Overall, this is a beautiful, relaxing CD!

3.0 out of 5 stars Pachelbel Canon- Baroque Favorites
If you are purchasing this cd specifically for the canon-DON'T! It is a condensed version 4imnutes 20 seconds. I, stupidly, did not do my "homework" before making this purchase, hoping that others will not do the same...

3.0 out of 5 stars Agree with below, November 10, 2002
This review is from: Pachelbel: Canon (Audio CD)
I agree with the review below: this CD is not to be bought for the specific reason of hearing and omparing Canon. If you see any other piece on here that sounds interesting, remember that classical sampler CDs usually are not the best quality recordings or performances, and sometimes can have condensed versions of songs.

BUT for laypeople - persons not studying music or are just browsing for a good background baroque CD that's easy to listen to without a boring program, this album will suffice. I recommend looking into albums with complete pieces as well if you decide you like this style. Remember sampler CDs are for just that - sampling. This is but a taste of the wide world of Baroque.

So, introduction to baroque, good; high-quality canon, keep looking.

Finally found the Telleman song for which I had searched for so long. It took about 10 years. Glad Amazon came along.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soothing, October 17, 2008

I love Pachelbel "Canon in D Major" even if it is condensed. It establishes a relaxing tone. Add candles, sit back with a good book and you're set! To me it creates a sense of creative expectancy in the air. The light touch combined with the melodic movement flows into my subconcious helping me release my tension.

Max Pommer is the conductor of the New Bach Collegium Musicum on this album, while Helmut Winschermann is the conducter of the German Bach Soloists.

This sample of Baroque favorites doesn't miss the target. Music refreshes, relaxes, and inspires. I find the artists meet all three goals on this CD. I'm pleased as a consumer and recommend it highly for pure enjoyment.
