5.0 out of 5 stars truly baroque, August 3, 2004
By
Sven De Boeck ((Flanders, Belgium, Europe) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pachelbel: Geistliche Festmusik (Festal Sacred Music) (Audio CD)
This album truly deserves 5 stars. When you should want to express the word 'baroque' in music, this album could be the answer. You hear vocal sacred music, adorned with all sort of instruments : strings, recorders, oboe's and 2 works splendidly scored for 5 trumpets and timpani.

The Rosenmüller-ensemble sing the cantates with 5 soloists in a 4 or 5-voice-setting, and that gives the music the transparance we need.

The soloists are not top-rate but they do a nice job producing a good unity in singing and a beautiful tone.

The music itself is speldid and truly high-baroque, and makes you being interested in more music by Pachelbel. Of course, this is not JS Bach, but it has his quality, anno 2004.

Forget the Canon and Gigue for a moment, and get this album !

Best regards,

Sven De Boeck (Flanders, Belgium)
