I purchased this pad for my Marlin 336C with a wood stock. The item arrived right on time and fit my stock perfectly. I did have to fill the exisiting holes and drill new one's but that was expected. Overall fit and finish are excellent.

Winchester 30-30 Stock Pad,
By I was so pleased that it fit without having to file to fit. The advertising stated it was custom fit and it fit perfectly. I was very pleased and it did the job of cushening.

Once installed and customized (by you) this product works well in reducing the kick. Down side is there are different stocks even among the same models, so the chances you get the stock pad that fits your gun, even if searched by model number, are slim. The customization will require dowels and new drilling and a bunch of shaping of the pad. My opinion its not worth it.

Don't bother buying this unit for a Marlin 336. Terrible fit. Pad is slightly smaller than stock and holes do not line up.

Nice idea. Did not fit. Too small. Like the disclaimer about different gun stock sizes, but I purchased for a specific rifle with a specific stock. Disappointed that I had to buy the boot version from Walmart. Oh, by the way, you will have to also re-drill the holes in the stock too as they don't line up either even if the pad did fit. May want to skip this one.

This recoil pad is suppsed to fit the Marlin 1895 45/70 rifle butt. It is advertised as a "pre-fit" pad. No grinding or fitting necessary. I received the pad and removed the factory plate. The new Pachmayr #01739 pad was a full 1/16+ inch short all around the butt. (To small) My vendor attempted to contact Pachmayr for an explanation of the size discrepancy, but after five days Pachmayr had not returned their call and the vendor paid for the return shipping and refunded the cost. I purchased a LimbSaver pad and ground that to fit; a great absorbtion relief.

What does "Pre-fit" mean?,

Seems to me that since it only requires 2 screws, those 2 screws could at least match the original holes. I think it's rediculous that I have to drill new holes in the stock in order to install this new pad. What does "Pre-fit" mean? I mistook it to mean that this pad would fit the same way as the original.

Not really Pre-Fit , made it work,

I purchased this for a Marlin 1895 Std. 22" barrel 45-70 Gov't(mfg. 1994). It is supposed to be a pre fit recoil pad, it wasn't for mine. It was larger around than the hard factory pad and would of protruded about a 1/16" the whole way around.
My solution was to take the hard factory pad and lay it on top of the Pachmayr pad and center it the best I could. I used two smaller c-clamps and clamped the pads together. I then used a small electric hand sander (120 grit) and sanded the excess Pachmayr pad down, until it was the same size as the factory pad. Took 5 minutes maybe. I drilled the new holes in the butt stock and installed the screws. Looks pretty good and is much softer than factory. I made it work. Pre-Fit? No way!

Again, should have shopped locally, with shipping paid more than should have.
The prefit notation, at extra charge, was a streach to say the least, close fit maybe an exageration. |
