More About the Author

Philippe de Vosjoli is the best-selling author of over 35 books on the care of amphibians and reptiles. He was a co-founder and president of the American Federation of Herpetoculturists (AFH), the pioneering organization that in 1987 launched the highly acclaimed Vivarium Magazine, the first all color, internationally distributed publication dedicated to the captive husbandry and breeding of amphibians and reptiles. Though it was sold in 2000, the Vivarium is still considered one of the best magazines ever published in its field. He has written over 100 articles on herpetoculture and naturalistic vivarium design.

Philippe de Vosjoli along with his friend Robert Mailoux was responsible for many first captive breedings and introductions in the herpetocultural hobby.
With Frank Fast, he collected and established most of the morphotypes of small island forms of New Caledonian giant geckos and 'rediscovered' the lesser rough-snouted gecko.

In addition to books on reptiles, he has authored two best-selling books on Pachyforms, a term he coined to describe fat-bodied pachycaul and caudiciform plants.

He is currently working with Frank Fast and Allen Repashy on a four volume set on New Caledonian geckos to update the now out-of-print Rhacodactylus. He has just completed a soon to be published children's book, the Legend of Atticus Rex and is finishing his first novel I AM the Other, to be released this fall.

They had to read the book, not just look at the pictures.

Iliked this book very much, it is very instructive and yet for an amateur very easy to "digest" it.

I love this book. It is on Caudiciforms which are some of the most interesting and beautiful plants in the world. It is the only book on the subject that has information on cultivation of these wonderful plants. It is well worth having. I was thrilled to find it. Once I obtained a copy I couldn't put it down.

Another great book is by Gordon Rowley called "Caudiciform & Pachycaul Succulents". I wore out my first copy of this book and had to purchase another copy. It doesn't have information on cultivation but lots of other information. I let people borrow my copy and they couldn't put it down. They had to read the book, not just look at the pictures.

If you are interested in collecting and growing "fat plants" this book is an absolute must. I find myself just flipping through the book and looking back over the amazing pictures from time to time. The book also offers good general information on purchasing and growing pachyforms.

Iliked this book very much, it is very instructive and yet for an amateur very easy to "digest" it. Incidently - what i missed is an index of the diverse plants to the effect that if i want to look up a certain plant on the way untill i found it I read a lot on others(which is not a "bad" thing at all.)

I used to collect caudiciform plants when I lived in CA. Circumstances have landed me in the snow belt, and this book helps me remember why I loved them so much...
A larger format would have made this a true coffe table volume.
