We bought this bike for our daughters 7th birthday because she HAD to have a bike with gears.
overall the bike was easy to assemble. The only issue I had was that the seat stem couldn't be lowered enough to fit to her height, I had to cut aprox. 3" off the stem because it would hit the frame shock. She is over 4' tall so I don't know why this was an issue, anyway she absolutely loves it, and for the price so do we!!!

My girl grew out of a 16-inch wheeler, and she was riding 20-inch wheeler handed down from her brother. However, it did not have gears, so she wasn't able to follow us if we went around the blocks with hills. I thought this was a good bike and purchased it. (First time online.)
First packaging: The box was little damaged, and I don't think it just had enough to protect the contents. I believe the front wheel was little bent. The front and rear wheels weren't balanced. Second: The brakes were little hard to adjust. After applying the brake, it tilted to one side, so the brake pad on one side would get a lot closer to the wheel than I've adjusted before. Third: The crank was little small. Since she was used to her brother's bike that had bigger crank, she had to paddle harder to keep up on the flat surface. Fourth: The rear deraileur did not work well. It was little tough for her to adjust the gears (little tight for me as well). It had 6 gears, but when she tried it, it hardly went to 1st or 6th gear. It would skip 2nd~5th gears. The chain came off while she was riding it. Fifth: The saddle was little too long. Although I've lowered it fully, since the length was little long, it did not give enough room to lower it more. It will be too challenging to return it, so I took it to the bike shop to make adjustment, and it would cost me at least $30 to adjust the wheels and deraileur. I will update more once I get it back from the bike shop. #Update: Local shop made some adjustment, and it works little better. The wheels were balanced, and rear deraileur works better.

Received bike in broken up box with rear gears sticking out and some scratches on bike(not a huge deal but definitely not good). My daughter rode the bike for 30 minutes getting used to it and the front brake bracket between the pads snapped( $20 to fix not worth shipping back).Took the bike on vacation 2 weeks later and half way through vacation the gears were stuck and wouldn't change. Bad thing it was stuck in a low gear so she couldn't pedal up any inclines.Come to find out the gear box was broken on the inside, and $40 more to fix.Bike was nice for the price before the two extras now not so sure, hopefully nothing else goes wrong.

I was a little hesitant purchasing this bike after reading the reviews. The box it arrived in was pretty banged up, but there was no damage to the bike. I should mention that I have a lot of experience with bike repair and many specialized tools. Assembly was straight forward and simple. I did have to adjust the brakes and the derailleur cable tension. The only thing I found lacking was the grip shifter itself. It was hard for me to turn and even harder for our eight year old granddaughter. I'm going to look for a replacement. The indexing was also off and there was no way to adjust it. When it is in the 1st gear it indicates 2nd gear and so on. It does index nicely through the gears. It has been ridden everyday and she loves it. I would definitely recommend this as a starter mountain bike.

The bike was very difficult to put together. Within two months of owning the bike (after throwing away the packaging) the bike sustained two flats. Tears in the same place. The flats occurred while just sitting in the garage, with over 110 degree days this summer the bike has not been ridden that much. Have not been impressed with this bike at all.

Shifter didn't work well at all and during the first use, the cable pulled right through the gear shift and the gear shift had to be replaced. Bought a replacement at the local bike store rather than pay to ship bike back. Rear derailer seems pretty cheap and has a lot of play in it which makes shifting very noisy and clunky and frustrates my daughter. Also rear wheel is out of true and will have to be adjusted. Had to adjust the brakes to accomodate as the wheel kept rubbing.
Next time I will buy at a local bike store where I can things fixed quickly and easily.

The bicycle was purchased as a gift. When we took it out of the box, it had some scratches in various places. My husband was able to fix these with paint he had on hand, so that aren't noticeable, but I doubt many people would have been able to do this. It was too late to send it back and get another one. This is why I'm giving it two stars only. Except for the issues with the damage during packing and/or shipping, the bike looks like it will be fine for the girl we purchased it for.

Bought this for my daughter. She absolutely loves it, but since there is 6 inches of snow on the ground, she hasn't rode it yet. For $100 though, compared to what you can get at Walmart or Target, this bike is a steal. Suspension on the front and rear, and 6 gears.

Perfect gift for a child you dont love. Got it for my daughter as a birthday present. She rode it twice...then it broke! Shifter lever is made of cheap plastic. Great bike you you never want to shift gears!
Pros: Cheap Cons: Cheap cheap cheap! Lesson: you get what you pay for.

We bought this bike for my daughter's 7th birthday. The box was falling apart and UPS had to put it in another box. When we opened it, the gear shifter was broken and the bike was all scratched up. So we had to return it and scramble to find a bike quickly. Looked like it might have been an ok bike if it had been packaged properly.
