4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Bike
Very nice looking bike. Had to make a few adjustments to the brakes. Very disappointed when I realized that the pedals were missing. Contacted Amazon and they wanted me to return the whole bike and would not send me pedals. After digging around I was able to find the manufacturer of the bike and ask them to send me pedals. They apologized to me and sent them out...

Like one of the previous reviewers, I, too, had issues with the handlebars; except even the handlebars were installed backwards. I'm a mechanically-inclined individual, but am still pretty new at putting bikes together. This lead to me having issues with the cheap screws (that are prone to stripping) on the derailleurs.

On the plus-side, the manual is relatively comprehensive, although is jam-packed of information for EVERY bike that Pacific makes.

As far as the ride goes, I don't completely have the brakes or shifters adjusted, so I won't speak to their quality (although they weren't completely terrible), but the bike seat is a bit hard. The bike is also almost too big for me (I'm 5'3"), so short people should probably look elsewhere. You'll want to adjust the rear shock's spring depending on your weight, as the stock setting had no give at all for me.

The packaging from the manufacturer was lacking. I'm lucky that my FedEx driver isn't very abusive to packages, but people that are less fortunate could definitely have problems. The bike arrives with the front end disassembled (which is standard), and is secured to itself with zip ties and absolutely zero foam/paper/etc to hold it in place. There is cardboard wrapped around certain areas of the bike to dull hard points, but this obviously won't save it from any kind of drop.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok i guess, April 11, 2011

OK so it was very easy to assemble and its a smooth ride somewhat but, the brakes and handle bars are cheap. Like a lot of the people said, you get what you paid for and that's exactly right because the brakes aren't solid metal, they're hollow and the things u use to press to make the bike some are plastic -_- which means that they break easily. (sorry for not knowing what its called). SO i went to the bike shop and told them that i cant stop because i have the brakes adjusted properly but I'm not getting the proper stopping power. The guy told me that my brakes are cheap and he showed me some of the one of the more expensive bikes and it was way better than mine.( The bike he showed me was a trek) And he said that he was going to replace all of it for $97 n that's including everything , so now i have to get it fixed. but If i knew that i was going to have to spend another almost $100 then i would've bought a more expensive bike. But If you're buying this for exercise and like going to be using it a lot then i wouldn't suggest getting this bike.

1.0 out of 5 stars quality issues, weight limit, extra costs to fix, June 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pacific Chromium Men's Dual Suspension Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
Item arrived in well-enough condition and it comes with reflectors. The good news stops here.

Setup: They do not supply you with the 2 different sized hex tools you need to put the bike together. The squeeze-brakes were installed backwards on the handlebars - luckily I had a hex tool set to fix them. The brakes require adjustment to get them not to touch the wheel in the normal resting position. The kickstand is loaded with gobs of grease that is plainly visible. Inflated tires to recommended pressure.

Ride: What ride? The front tire popped after rolling 2 feet. Very loud bang. I didn't know this when buying, but the tire has a weight limit that states "198 LBS Max Load". Being 200+, I assumed there would be an acceptable amount of tolerance...I assumed incorrectly. I worry that lighter people might also find themselves in a similar bind if they do any kind of spirited biking. I would have liked to have been informed about the tires maximum load weight before buying.

Things I didn't consider when purchasing: The frame shape. Where do I place a water-bottle bracket? There are no pre-drilled holes in the frame, not to mention space, to allow easy installation.

They apologized to me and sent them out right away! This item was a gift so it was hard to get the information I needed to contact the manufacturer. Very disappointed that Amazon did not provide that to me over the phone and insisted that I disassemble the bike, repack it, and take it to a local UPS store.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous mountain bike, January 18, 2012

I bought this bike about a month ago. I need it to go to school and work on a Monday to Friday basis first the chain didn't work properly I couldn't use all 21 settings that it has. I let that fly the pedals will come off so I tighten them pretty well. So today I'm my way back to work and as get up to pedal faster the right pedal broke off you can imagine where did I land i hit the pavement as hard as I have ever hit it before. My whole lower back was scrape the sit fly off and couldn't be put back in place. The treats of the pedal just went right out landing me straight in the floor. The plate cover of the chain plates broke off in conclusion this was the worst product I bought not only from Amazon but in my whole shopping career. What a piece of useless metal is not only a non-fun bike but a dangerous one as well imagine that happens in a real mountain biking trip good luck if you buy. Oh and by the way I only weight 155 pounds. I put a start because the webpage won't let me through if I don't rate their bike it doesn't even deserves one start.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maybe I'm the exception but..., March 14, 2011
This review is from: Pacific Chromium Men's Dual Suspension Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
I'm not certain why people's wheels are popping but in my case I'm right at 240lbs. Yes the limit is stated at 198 lbs. KNOW THIS BEFORE YOU BUY! I didn't find out until later about the limit. In any case I just rode it today for 20 miles to the next city near me. I went up hill, down hill and some very rough terrain (wooded area) but experienced no problems. I even hit a few potholes. The only thing I did when I got the bike was adjust the breaks and really tighten down the handlebars (even though the book advises against over-tightening). FYI. I have my tires inflated at 47psi even though it recommends 50. The tires felt firm and didn't bulge under my weight. I didn't see any need to inflate to the MAX.

If you are going to buy a bike you need to face the fact that you are going to have to make some adjustments: Seat height, brake pads not touching the rims, and suspension systems for bikes that have them (like this one!). My advice. If you don't know anything about bikes or know anyone who does, take it to a bike shop and have them look at it or even pay them to tune it up for you. If you think you can just take out of the box, put the handlebars on and ride without adjusting anything you are probably going to be unsatisfied or worse, crash.

i dismissed the other bad reviews as people expecting too much for so little.

i can tolerate a lot on a $107 bike, but the tire popping (yes popping like a balloon) before my son could ride it, with less than reccomended pressure, makes this product less then i paid for.
