3.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy wagon but poor manufatrueing quality control
I purchased this wagon for my kids about a week ago. It arrived relatively quick and I tried to put it together but the package contained two left handle frames. I called the number in the instruction book the next day and they promptly sent out the correct piece. Unfortunately the piece I received was about an inch too long so I couldn't finish the wagon. We bought this wagon for our 1yr old daughter. It took about an hour to assemble due to the extra complications of the Quad Steer system that requires the use of cotter pins not normally seen on other wagons, but it's definitely worth it. Other friends had complained to us about the lack of off-road comfort in other wagons, so the inflatable tires on this wagon and the lower price than comparable Radio Flyer models attracted us. However, now that we've experienced the handle that adjusts it's length at the push of a button and the exceptional maneuverability of the Quad-Steer system we were VERY pleasantly surprised at how great this wagon really is. The wagon's constructions is solid and heavy, yet it doesn't feel particularly heavy when pulled because the tires roll so smoothly. Our only minor disappointment was the lack of support for the kids riding in it. The metal "tub" is deeper than other metal wagons, but the lack of wood slats on the back and sides means tracking down some other method to ensure the kids can lean back comfortably. A stadium seat it seems to be doing the trick, but hopefully we'll find something better in the future. Having these options readily available would have made it a solid 5 stars all the way.

This schwinn wagon is a very sturdy built wagon compared to the others out there. I compared it with a lot of garden wagons from hardware stores. The metal tub is heavier gage metal. I can actually step in this one and have little to no flex. Other wagons would flex like a soft drink can. I do have one complaint during assembly. Be prepared to need extra hardware. Two wheels were different than the other two. They are almost the same but the spacing on the hub was off. So I had to improvise. I am very handy and have spare washers and pins. For those out there that don't find a friend to help assemble. I will have to visit a hardware store and spend another couple bucks to put this wagon together properly. I would be very dissapointed if the quality of the wagon was poor. The wagon is very strong and will last several generations. Schwinn just needed to be more thorough with their hardware. Maybe I just got the last box friday at 5 from the manufacturer..Who knows.
Great wagon just be prepared with spare hardware when you assemble it.
I would buy again.

This thing is amazing. I found it a bit challanging to assemble until I realized I did not have all of the parts. One trip to the hardware store for appropriate spacers and it went right together. (I did not want to wait for the right parts package to arrive.)

With all wheel steering the center of the mass, weight, stays centered over the wheels too. It does not turn over when manuevering unlike typical wagons with a static rear axle. And this is very important when the cargo is an eighteen month old grandchild! And because of the wide inflated tires it does not get stuck in sand. Did I mention the incredible tight turning radius? Adds a whole bunch of fun to the ride! Not to mention the adjustable handle: no more bending over to pull it!

I love it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Won't be a pretty red wagon for long!, December 27, 2011

I saw this on a department store shelf sitting next to the standard red flyer wagon (similar to one I had when I was a boy) and had to take it home for my grandson. What a great Christmas present this would be for a little boy. Beautiful shiny red paint, 4 wheel steering, Big wide traction pneumatic tires - really a cool looking wagon. And very sturdy. Should last forever, right? WRONG!

Before I get into why I say that, let me tell you about putting it together. I'm a fairly handy individual - fortunately. The directions are way outdated, the parts unmarked only pictured with very poor quality pictures - either that or the booklet has been copied too many times. Someone went to great effort to closely show closeup pictures to try and explain how parts fit, but the pictures were taken too closely to the part on the wagon, too close to see it without seeing a point of reference with it. Also, A few parts were changed but not included in the instruction booklet. But, I eventually figured it out. Now that I know how, I could probably put it together in about 10 minutes. The hardware isn't bad quality - except for the plastic wheel caps - I broke one trying to get it on, but fortunately, out of the blue an extra one appeared out of nowhere - they had included 5 caps. Someone else complained about the screws that hold the wooden "schwinn" placard to the sides of the wagon. These placard some preinstalled on the sides with what look like rivets made to look like phillips screws (a phillips head on both sides) - they aren't really screws, I don't think - they are more like rivets that look like phillips screws. they are loose - and do rattle around ever so slightly, but I don't think it's a problem, and I fear a child could scratch himself on the rough edge of those rivets/screws on the inside of the wagon. I went over them with a speed tool and smoothed them out.

Now, back to my comment on how long this should last. On christmas day after everyone went home I left this in my cold garage overnight. The next morning I brought it back inside to check everything before I need to transport it over to my inlaws. I noticed a large bare spot in the paint. The paint had blistered, and actually chipped off over night. Fortunately I had some red paint to touch it up with but as I was touching it up, another small patch of paint actually fell off onto the carpet. I checked the rest of the painted surface and there were at least two or three other "blisters" where the paint was about to fall off. I pulled it off with my finger nail. I touched up those too - and it looks ok - for now anyway. When the sunlight hits it, it'll be ugly, I'm sure.

Under this shiny red paint is just bare metal. There is no primer underneath it at all. So, as the metal expands and contracts in changing weather, or perhaps even by general use, this paint is going to continue to chip. This is just not acceptable. This is just a matter of another case of a company trying to save a few bucks by not preparing the metal correctly and priming it - to save a little time and materials. Granted, it would probably increase the price of the wagon, but I would say the value of this wagon is more than the existing cost - could they do a proper paint job for an additional $10.00 per wagon? I would think so, and I would gladly have paid it.

I haven't yet contacted them about this, we'll see what they do to correct this. I can't see any way that would make this right other than replacing the wagon, but do I really want that if the replacement too was not painted properly?

I'll get back to this review when I find out how this turns out. But until they fix this problem, this wagon will be nothing but a rusty old piece of metal parts in a few short months if it is used at all. The poor paint job takes the rating from 4 stars to 1 star.

I called again and they are sending a replacement part again.

I like the wagon because it seems to be pretty sturdy but when I tightened the screws/bolts, each screw heads stripped out way too easily. Half of the screws that hold the wooden signs on each side are too long (only by a 16th inch or so) so they rattle around. That on top of a replacement part that was incorrect size makes me think there are quality control issues in the manufacturing process. I plan to hit up my local hardware store tomorrow for a few higher grade screws.

I would recommend this wagon to a friend but only if they don't mind spending a few dollars buying better screws.

i received the wagon and immediately noticed that the metal spine was missing an incut that made it impossible to put together. the shipper made good on sending me a new one at no cost...I was able to put it together, but now one of the wheels doesnt hold air/has a flat, so ill have to replace it...a disappointing purchase to say the least.
