Not the One to Buy. Below Average Hardware. Look Elsewhere.,
This review is from: Pacific Digital 52x24x52 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
Pacific Digital is simply not the company to purchase a CDRW from. It's as simple as that. Whatever speed you want, whether internal or external, please look elsewhere.[]Their support is non-existant. Luckily I am an advanced user and I can configure things without manuals. For those who don't consider themselves an "advanced user," be prepared to be frustrated! Warranties are meaningless. These units are only good for occasional use. If you burn a lot, your unit WILL break. It's not a question of 'if,' it's a question of 'when.' The internal hardware mechanics are simply cheaply put together. That said, when the unit works, it's ok. One still does recieve some bad burns, even with buffer underun protection. But it does read CDs and every once in a while will perform a successful burn. Nero is nero, no matter what the drive. I think the software is comparably as good as Roxio. However other than the disk copy utility, the CD compilation and custom burning software is not as good. You might want some documentation on what kind of disk format to make your custom burns in. Good luck finding it. This drive doesn't come with it. Save yourself some grief and invest in another drive.

Problems with both the drive and the Nero 5.5 software,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pacific Digital 52x24x52 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
Drive installed very easy...so did software. However, Nero 5.5 software that was packaged with it wouldn't recognize the drive, although my machine running Windows ME did. Audio CD's that play well on my CD Rom skipped, hung up, repeated tracks when played on the Pacific Digital drive: it appears that the drive is as defective as the Nero software....after five (5) frustrating days, I gave up and returned both for a refund. First item I've ever purchased from Amazon that I had to return.
