Pacific Digital is simply not the company to purchase a CDRW from. It's as simple as that. Whatever speed you want, whether internal or external, please look elsewhere.

Pacific Digital is simply not the company to purchase a CDRW from. It's as simple as that. Whatever speed you want, whether internal or external, please look elsewhere.

[]Their support is non-existant. Luckily I am an advanced user and I can configure things without manuals. For those who don't consider themselves an "advanced user," be prepared to be frustrated!

Warranties are meaningless. These units are only good for occasional use. If you burn a lot, your unit WILL break. It's not a question of 'if,' it's a question of 'when.' The internal hardware mechanics are simply cheaply put together.

That said, when the unit works, it's ok. One still does recieve some bad burns, even with buffer underun protection. But it does read CDs and every once in a while will perform a successful burn.

Nero is nero, no matter what the drive. I think the software is comparably as good as Roxio. However other than the disk copy utility, the CD compilation and custom burning software is not as good. You might want some documentation on what kind of disk format to make your custom burns in. Good luck finding it. This drive doesn't come with it.

Save yourself some grief and invest in another drive.

1.0 out of 5 stars Problems with both the drive and the Nero 5.5 software, August 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Pacific Digital 52x24x52 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
Drive installed very easy...so did software. However, Nero 5.5 software that was packaged with it wouldn't recognize the drive, although my machine running Windows ME did. Audio CD's that play well on my CD Rom skipped, hung up, repeated tracks when played on the Pacific Digital drive: it appears that the drive is as defective as the Nero software....after five (5) frustrating days, I gave up and returned both for a refund. First item I've ever purchased from Amazon that I had to return.

Install was simple. If you're familiar with installing CD-RWs, it should not be a problem. One note, make sure old drivers are uninstalled before installing the new drives. Drive is pretty fast.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke in less than 6 months, October 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Pacific Digital 52x24x52 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
It worked well for about six months. It still read CD's but won't burn them. Don't buy especially for the price the sell for. I read some reviews of some of their older products, apparently their older burners were good, but this one is junk. Save yourself a bunch of grief and buy something else.

1.0 out of 5 stars JUNK JUNK JUNK, April 10, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Pacific Digital 52x24x52 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
If you like pulling your hair out in frustration then by all means purchase this hunk of junk. If you already have high blood pressure...this device just may kill you.

Worthless. Incompatible. Unsupported. JUNK.

I would have included alot more swears but then you would not have the benifit of my misfortue.

If the price were lowered to $10.00, you would still be getting ripped off.

1.0 out of 5 stars Never Worked. Horrible Support, October 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Pacific Digital 52x24x52 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
I bought this drive several month ago. It never installed properly, and I have been chasing a ghost of a support staff ever since. I have made phone contact on 2 occasions and email contact on 2 occasions. No one is ever there when I call or on there supposed "live" web support. Do not buy this product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hopefully some helpfull info for the frustrated user., April 7, 2007
This review is from: Pacific Digital 52x24x52 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
Pacific Digital went out of business. That's why there's no support for this product. However, there is still a website with some helpful information. A person can download manuals and software/firmware updates there. Hope this helps. I've had great success with both of my Pacific Digital external drives.

1.0 out of 5 stars PIECE OF SH*@!!!!, October 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Pacific Digital 52x24x52 Internal IDE CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
I bought this product and I have never had it work. It will read cd's but it will not write or rewrite anything. I thought it was just that I didnt have the right software for it so I didnt send it back. I wish that I had sent it back. I would only recamend this product as an expensive paper weight, or as an automatic computer cup holder. Oh wait scrach that, now it wont even open up. WORTHLESS... AHHHHH!!!!
