Excellent value,

This review is from: Pacific Digital U-30115 16x Internal IDE DVD-ROM Drive (Personal Computers)
After a little shopping around, I purchased this product based on its positive reviews and high sales rank. I am very satisfied. The drive comes with a large software and mp3 bundle, which includes trial versions of various video, sound, and image editing programs. As far as I can tell, the only worthwhile (i.e. non-trial) program included is InterVideo WinDVD 3.1. The drive also comes with a one-year warranty for RMA service.Installation is the same as any other 5.25 inch drive - set the jumpers and plug everything in. If you use Windows, make sure to enable DMA mode on the IDE controller in the Device Manager; playback was extremely choppy before I did this. I have also found that playback is little smoother with CyberLink PowerDVD 4.0 than with the included software. Overall I have no complaints and highly recommend this drive.

Awesome Product for an Awesome Price!,

Simply put, this DVD-ROM drive is great. Installation is a snap (God bless Plug and Play devices). Win98SE saw the drive and said "Hey, DVD ... alright!" I will say that I loathe the bundled WinDVD (interface is horrible IMO), but I acquired a copy of PowerDVD 3.0 and it's flawless. Picture quality is amazing (especially when coupled with a GeForce4 vid card and a flat panel monitor), sound quality is thunderous. I also like to archive my CD collection into MP3 format, and this drive rips full audio CDs in a matter of minutes. I tend to wear out CD/DVD drives relatively fast (replacing them every 6-8 months), but at the Pacific Digital price, it's not an issue.Long story short, it's probably the best deal you'll find if you're looking for a fast, easy-to-use DVD-ROM drive.

Great DVD drive,

I had no trouble installing this drive and the software that it came with. It works well out of the box. I did have some frame drop problems due to having too many programs running in my system tray - but this is not due to the drive itself. If you are having frame drops try closing all other running application. Also I was able to configure this drive very easily under Linux with no major issues (had to learn about all the DVD options are out there!) I found that it works natively under mplayer and I was extremely happy. In summary this is a great drive and I'm very happy with it -- well worth the price.

I was at a popular computer store buying Promedia 5.1 speakers, and a sound card when I noticed this DVD player on display. I figured with the sound I would have on my PC, that I NEEDED a DVD player, but I didn't want to spend much money to get one. I randomly, without research, picked this one up. I know the company from it's other products, so I figured why not. I was VERY pleased. After I installed it inside, which was not very hard, following the instructions, I booted up my computer, put the disk in, and I was up and running. The first CD and DVD I tired worked perfectly. GREAT Deal for the price if you just havent gotten a DVD player. It's also a pretty fast CD ROM, so you may want to replace your old CD Rom completly, as I did. It worked for me...and heres my PC.

DVD Drive works perfectly,

I replaced a less than functional Samsung DVD with this Pacific Digital Drive. The installation was a snap. The directions were short and sweet. Windows 98 recognized it immediately. The picture quality is excellent. It loads music and concert DVD's very rapidly. The WIN DVD software that comes bundled is easy to use and the ability to vary the color tint and brightness is a bonus

Easiest Piece Of Hardware I've Ever Installed,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pacific Digital U-30115 16x Internal IDE DVD-ROM Drive (Personal Computers)
This is without a doubt the easiest piece of hardware I've ever installed. I bought this to replace an existing CDRom drive. This was as simple as removing the CDRom drive, moving the rails over to the DVD drive. replugging the cables and starting up the machine. That was it. I then loaded in the software for DVD and that was just as quick. I opened up the DVD drive slipped in the CD, it auto started, loaded and in 2 minutes was finished. I can listen to music or watch a movie. The product has really set the standard for hardware installation. If your savvy with making hardware changes on your machine, you will appreciate the ease of use. If you have always been afraid to make changes or upgrades to your computer, this product is for you.

The Pacific Digital U-30115 Internal 16X DVD-ROM was easy to install out of the box. In addition, it (now) ships with PowerDVD 4.0 (a vast improvement over WinDVD)!Only 1 problem ... there was no manual in the box to tell me which jumper setting was appropriate. Nothing major since the information was available on the product website and was easy enough to figure out without the manual.

It was extremely easy to install. It came with everything that was needed for the installation. Windows 2000 recognized the drive immediately. The only flaw I found is the software that the was bundled with. WIN DVD did not allow the drive play DVD's propertly. Power DVD works great with the drive and I recommned purchasing it for this product.
