Competes with many high-end pedals,
By This pedal is nearly infinitely adjustable, especially cam rotation, spring tension, and beater offset. Most of the adjustments require a hex wrench, which is fairly standard for most modern single and double pedals. The left side slave pedal has a full floorplate, and the linkage rod that connects the right and left pedals will not bind at any angle I have tried. There is a slight lag on the left pedal, which is normal for any double pedal configuration, but you'll quickly compensate for that as you get used to a double pedal if you are moving from a single pedal. Before I purchased this particular model I tried out Tama's Iron Cobra, Pearl's Powershifter and a Gilbralter Avenger. I did not like the stiffness of the Iron Cobra, but did like the Pearl and Gibraltar pedals. It finally came down to either this or the Gibralter, which was slightly smoother, but significantly more expensive. I opted for best value without sacrificing performance or quality and am thrilled with this pedal. If you are moving from a single to double pedal configuration I strongly recommend that you give this one a serious look. More importantly, try out this pedal in a local store and compare it to other double models - selecting a bass pedal is a personal decision with many more factors than price, features and quality. It has to feel right. In addition, you will find that you will be using the double bass more than your hi-hat, which means that you will need to compensate. For that I recommend the Gibraltar hi-hat drop clutch (ASIN B0002F73YY), which will allow you to engage and disengage your hi-hat with ease. I have my hi-hats set for a slight opening in the normal closed position, but stepping on the hi-hat pedal - using the clutch - puts it in full play position. Tapping the lever on the clutch closes them again. This clutch is a perfect companion to a double bass pedal!

Good for the money, but try it before you buy it...,

I decided to go with a double bass after my old single pedal broke, and this seemed like a good deal. It is...the pedal is very good, with decently solid construction and good adjustability, which is to be expected from Pacific. It's a great starter double bass.I have a few nits about them though, that's why they only get 4 stars from me. 1: The beaters are hard plastic on both sides, which makes getting different sounds from them more difficult than reversible beaters that have felt on one side and plastic on the other. Sure, new beaters are cheap and easy to find, it just would have been nice to have this feature out of the box. 2: The drive shaft is a bit too short for me. I'm way over 6' tall and as a result I need to have the pedals pretty far apart to be comfortable during long sessions. This is only personal preference, other tallish folks may have no problems. If you are above average height, I would suggest going to a store to try them first. 3: The drive chain for the beater pulleys are pretty small. During hard playing, this allows pedal to move from side to side a fair amount. This leads to some problems: sometimes my feet don't stay planted on the pedals correctly and I need to make minute adjustments during playing, and the mounting point for the chain onto the pedal produces an audible clicking when it moves. If you play really hard or are studio recording, bear this in mind. Overall, this is a good deal. I enjoy using these pedals every day. As mentioned before, however, they are starters. After you get really good with them, you may start to notice some of their shortcomings and wonder if the money should have been put towards some Axis Longboards or Yamaha Direct Drives...I know that's what I'm thinking.

I'm astounded that this pedal isn't getting horrible reviews. The pedal is barely adjustable. The beater angle and almost all other aspects are stuck in place, I confirmed this with a person from Pacific (you can do the same). The person I spoke with told me that the 400 series is the lowest line and therefore has no bells and whistles. This wouldn't be a huge problem if the angle of the beater wasn't dangerously far back. Every time I play this pedal the beaters slam back into my shin after I lift my foot off from a bass drum hit. This is extremely obnoxious and it gets painful. This fact alone makes this pedal something that I would never recommend to anyone. Please, if you're looking for a bass pedal you MUST look a little bit longer. This pedal is cheap for a reason and you'll likely be very disappointed with it.

good for beginners, personal experience,
Ok i am a 14 year old boy who has been playing drums for about 2 years, and i just recently developed a strong need to expand my drum set. for my birthday i recieved this pedal, which i asked for specifically because it was the cheapest i could find. when i started using it, i loved it. it completely changed my entire technique. however, as i get more knowledgeable on the subject, i am beginning to think i made a mistake. it is very adjustable but it doesnt change its speed or response time. it is a fairly slow pedal. i was expecting to just be joey jordison, and then upon use i realized my pedal is not capable of speeds that high. recently i bought a flying dragon yamaha double bass pedal off ebay, and it is so much btter! my speed increased so much i cant explain it. for beginners, this is an ok pedal. for up-and-coming drummers, it is weak

This pedal is a great deal for the price, so buy it and you will most likely be happy. But, before you do, know going into it that this pedal is not the 400 pedal as described. It is the 402 version instead. The big difference between the 400 and the 402 is that the 402 (the one you will get) comes with a much cheaper thinner chain. The description above has pictured the better "fat" chain of the actual 400 model. Amazon also (currently) has the 402 for sale for the exact same price, so you can compare the differences in the chains. If you order this, you are going to get the pedal and chain pictured in the 402 picture.

These pedals are great!! A friend of mine said I should buy other pedals because these pedals aren't manufactured by a very known brand name but I went with my own judgement and I was not disappointed with them. I have increased my speed a lot since I've gotten em and I can pedal songs like "All Nightmare Long" and "Beast and the Harlot" now =] great pedals. BUT, it takes time to develop speed so don't think the pedals suck just because you barely get em and you can't go all Jason Costa on em

I've been playing drums for 7 years and my tama stagestar pedal broke (btw:stagestar=great drum) so i decided to buy this one after reading critics. Pedals cost alot more in canada so i had to buy it fast while i was in the US.The free shipping was great and fast, the pedals arrived in good condition, it was easy to install (eaven without manuel), the box was big for nothing (but its not a big deal). Pedals were easy to adjust at least for me (im average size). they stick on carpets so it makes it a bit annoying. The quality is ok for the price. Expect a rebound when you hit the base drum! The left pedal rebound also touches ure right foot! the tip can hurt your base drum skin (exept for electronic)!! They cost as much as a single pedal....if u have more money buy a DW if u dont, they're acceptable ONLY FOR DOUBLE PEDAL BEGINNERS!!!!

Shipping was timely and the product arrived in excellent condition and well packaged. The set-up was easy and without complications, except that due to the size difference with a single drum pedal, the drum set needed to be moved around to coordinate the extra room required for the double pedal. I am well satisfied with this product and would recommended it for its value and quality.
