I'm always on the lookout for good music that's different from the mainstream, so when I saw this album, I figured it might be worth a try. Wow - was I rewarded! This CD has everything from chinese violins to japanese kotos to buddhist chants, all combined with interesting mixtures of instruments more familiar to western ears. I was so intrigued by this compilation that it led me to buy other Pacific Moon albums by individual artists - all of which are excellent! Reader beware - Pacific Moon CDs are like potato chips: once you start, it's really hard to stop!

There is quite a variation of genre in this 2-CD album. If you are looking more for slower, medidation-type music go for the Pacific Moon Sampler vol II which has the white album cover.

Very Excellent composers some of my favorite tracks are Silent Moon, Tohno, Verdurous Mountains, and River. These are nice calm relaxing sit down type of music. Some of the better music I've heard out of some of the Japanese music sold here on amazon.
