Organic Creamy Butternut Squash Soup by Pacific Natural Foods,
By
This review is from: Pacific Natural Foods Organic Soup, Creamy Butternut Squash, 16-Ounce Cartons (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I picked this soup up at the store last week while looking for something different and tasty. Anything but Campbells please. I was delighted and amazed by this product. It tasted like a mild version of pumpkin pie, wonderfully smooth and creamy. I can't wait to get my hands on more. The best part is that I'm following a Weight Watchers diet right now and 8 oz of this soup is only one point, following that a whole carton is only two points. That really makes my day - a culinary masterpiece and fits in nicely with my weight loss goal.

Light and creamy very mild taste. Palatable but not as good as the roasted tomato and pepper its the best so far.

The soup is good, not great. It is a little bit bland, but if you added peppers, onion, etc. it would probably improve it. I bought it because another reviewer stated it was just one point on Weight Watchers, and I liked that. Campbells V8 squash soup is tastier, but it is two points.

too sweet for my liking...,

I love all kinds of soup (low in sodium preferably) and I picked this one up at an organic store in town. It's a little too sweet for my liking. I guess I'm just a saltier person. I had this soup with some homemade bread and that was really good. It's kind of like a dinner's-over-but-I'm-still-kinda-hungry-and-have-a-sweet-tooth soup. The only kind of sweet soup I like is my mom's homemade cold tofu soup, and even then it's only a tiny scoop of sugar. Also, my second time trying this soup, it had a "different" taste that I didn't like. I can't describe so if you're willing, try it out!

WOW! This is the worst butternut squash soup I've ever had!,

Let me start off by saying that I LOVE butternut squash soup. I get packaged versions, refrigerated versions, frozen versions, homemade from scratch, ordered at diners, ordered at fine restaurants...never met a butternut squash soup that I didn't like. Until now. This is basically what you get when you add butternut squash puree to pumpkin pie spices, but then forget to taste-test. It is clearly bland and runny (like someone added too much water), yet over-powering in strange ways. And no, I didn't accidentally get the low sodium version. It's just an awful combination and if I could get Pacific Natural Foods to pay me to experiencing such a fowl tast in my mouth, I would.

Good Butternut Soup, but not our tastes,
This review is from: Pacific Natural Foods Organic Soup, Creamy Butternut Squash, 16-Ounce Cartons (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
Sporting a brilliant and enticing yellow-orange hue, with a rich and silky texture, it was a shame that the Organic Butternut Squash Soup from Pacfic Foods just didn't hit the mark with my family. The three other creamy dairy-free soups from Pacific (Curried Red Lentil, Cashew Carrot Ginger, Spicy Black Bean) will easily find their way into my shopping cart again, but this one will have to wait for the next consumer who wanders down the natural food aisle.
My husband wouldn't even taste-test the soup as the very idea of store-bought winter squash soup sends him running to the nearest fast food restaurant. I was hesitant for a couple of reasons - I'm not a fan of soymilk based soups since we try to keep our soy consumption at a modest level, and butternut soup tends to be too sweet for my tastes. And alas, this one was. Unlike the other Pacific creamy soups, this one lacked in spice (for my tastes) but not in sugar. After a few solo tastes, I decided to spice it up a bit with another pinch of salt (this was not the low sodium variety mind you), a good dash of ground ginger, and a few twists of the pepper grinder. I also braised some greens and added them to the soup. I thought the contrasting bitterness of the greens would be complimentary, and they were. In the end, this lunch ended up better, pretty good in fact, but still not fantastic. Since I like my convenience ready to go, I will stick with the other creamy soups from Pacific, which I thought were awesome. If you are generally a fan of butternut squash soup, then I do recommend giving this one a try, particularly since it is organic and sports some nice easy-to-read ingredients.

I found this soup and customized it to my own taste. I added, curry powder, ginger, lemon juice and garlic (and more) to taste. I find it so satisfying and warming on a cold day. The receipes I have created with these soups bring so many compliments, I plan on keeping a pot on the stove all winter long. Low is calories, high in flavor....try your own variations. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000LKU1R6/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_imgBonhoney@gmail.com

Separation anxiety,

Got this by mistake when I tried to order another soup. The squash solids settled to bottom, and no amount of shaking will emulsify it again, nor can it be poured. You need to place box on side, cut thru part of top, put it upright again, tear off rest of top, pour into saucepan and whisk it back together. The taste is fine, just bland. That can be remedied, but the effort of opening and preparing it is not worth it.

Great Soup!,

This is a great soup! It is as good as the Butternut Squash soup at the Whole Foods buffet - but at about 25% of the cost! If you have never tried Butternut Squash soup - try it! It is sweet and warm and wonderful!

Perfect for a base,
This review is from: Pacific Natural Foods Organic Soup, Creamy Butternut Squash, 16-Ounce Cartons (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I probably would not enjoy this soup without adding veggies; however, I love it as a soup base. I add a handful of orzo, a significant amount of spinach, and broccoli to this creamy soup on a regular basis. I top the soup off with some cinnamon. It is wonderful on a cold day and a healthier version of many of the cream based butternut squash soups.
