Cheese Flavor Soup
on February 2, 2013
I'm not sure why this soup gets such good reviews because while it looks like tomato soup, it certainly doesn't taste like it. In short, it has an overwhelming cheese flavor and almost no tomato flavor. There is no mention on the carton about cheese, other than a reference to "cheese flavor" towards the end of the ingredients list. While I like tomato soup, I don't like this stuff. If I buy tomato soup, I expect to get something that tastes primarily of tomatoes. If I want cheese soup, I'll order cheese soup. But guess what, cheese soup is rare, and there's a good reason for that.
Here are the ingredients from the carton: milk, water, tomato paste, sugar, salt, sodium citrate, rice flour, cheese flavor, garlic powder, onion powder.
UPDATE: after looking at this soup in my cupboard for two long I eventually ended up finishing all 6 cartons of it. In doing so I developed a liking for it, so I'm upping my rating to 3 stars. I still think that it doesn't taste like tomato soup should though.
