After a few glitches with an installed hack or two, I got the OmniRemote up and running and was completly satisified with the functionality of the unit. The ability to create buttons and assign functions to them is very handy. Added to that is the ability to create macros which just adds to its functionality. It works so much better than the software only version. The improved IR on the unit is quite powerful and will control my TV from up to 25' away and at quite an angle. Great job guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars This thing Rocks!, May 5, 2001
This review is from: Pacific Neo-Tek OmniRemote Springboard Module (Office Product)
Ever wish you could mute everything in your home theatre "stack" with one button? This can do it. Ever want to control three different TVs but a "universal" remote will only do one? This will do it. Ever wish the "slow scan and zoom" feature was a single press on your DVD player for those special DVDs ? This can do it. Design your own remote, using macros make buttons that talk to lots of things, talk to things you can't buy a remote for (like the Sony AIBO), all possible with this gizmo.

Its definitely worth it, and the high power IR led makes it all that much better. Too bad you can't beam with it. Also unlike a 'learning remote' you might get, this doesn't forget when you change the batteries. Hotsync and you're back in business.

If you are a couch potato, you _need_ this module.

4.0 out of 5 stars The good...the bad...but not too bad, May 22, 2001

Ok, let's break this one down:

Good: Programmable Macros, you push one button, it pushes as many as you set. Timer, set a time to push some buttons, and it will do it.

Bad: Setup, some of my TV remote buttons wouldn't program correctly, I had to adjust an "IR sample rate" setting to get it to work correctly. I've never seen any Universal remote need one of those settings. Power, this thing doesn't have as much reach as my other remote controls (or so it seems).

Overall: A good buy if you don't mind some setup hassles, and you're using the remote within 10 feet of your TV. Besides it's one more weird gadget to impress your friends with :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars What an amazing idea, December 5, 2001

I bought this module as a gift for my fiancee's birthday. In fact I got him the Handspring Visor Prism at the same time. This module is the greatest idea. It gives you the ability to use your Visor handheld as the first truly universal remote. I say that because there are a lot of so called 'universal remotes' you can buy that may be able to control most or all of your stereo/video equipment, but I have yet to see one that can do EVERY function the original remote for that item could have done. And this one can...and you can program it yourself to do almost anything. I highly recommend this item for anyone who has a Visor. You will not regret the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm, March 8, 2001

This review is from: Pacific Neo-Tek OmniRemote Springboard Module (Office Product)
My living room had 7 remotes (TV, VCR, LD, DVD, Dish, CD, Amp). Now I have 1, my Visor with the OmniRemote. This little module is *THE* reason I own my Visor.

"Univeral" remotes have the problem of having tons of buttons and still not covering EVERYTHING I want from the original remote, or being limited in storage capacity. I was looking at the newer touchscreen remotes, because in theory you can have multiple pages, one for each device, with whatever buttons you want on them.

A Visor plus the OmniRemote, does exactly that, is fully customizable, AND is useful for other things (nothing on TV? Play Solitaire), for less money than many of those dedicated units.

Be warned that you DO need the original remotes, and it takes some time to set up. But once you're done, you'll have one small remote on your living/family room table replacing a STACK.

I'm happy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great! unless you have RF remotes, March 9, 2001

This is the product i've been looking for! No codes to program, just point your remote at your Visor IR port and the key is instantly learned.

The only bad points are: 1) you have to program each key separately 2) It doesn't work for RF remotes (which makes sense). They claim there is another unit you can buy to use with RF remotes to remedy this 3) I don't always keep my visor by the tv! this has been my biggest problem so far... which i guess means it's a pretty useful and well designed product. It even allows you to "flip" the screen, so you can face the IR port to your components and still read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, but risky., June 16, 2000

While it does a great job of consoladating your remote controls and allows you to powerfully control all of your electronics, I have run across the typical remote problem, where did it go. We all lose remote controls, they get shuffled under things, misplaced and such, only they are not expensive electronic products. I love the control and ease that this product allows but on a few occasions my Handspring has gone missing, be weary of this problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finding the remote, September 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Pacific Neo-Tek OmniRemote Springboard Module (Office Product)
If you worry about finding the remote, there is a great feature that no other remote control has. Since it is a Handspring Visor, you simply set it to ring its alarm a couple times of day - no more lost remote!

The reason I decided to buy the OmniRemote for my Visor was that I had lost most of my remotes for my electronics on a move recently, and I thought this could replace them all quickly and easily. To my disappointment, I soon realized that all original remotes were needed to program this module. So I ended up having to go to Wal-Mart and buy another universal remote, program it using the included codes, and use that Universal Remote to program the OmniRemote. What a waste of time, effort and money. The Sony Universal remote I bought was much easier to setup and use, it costed about 75% less, and none of the original remotes were neccesary because a list of manufacturers codes was included. Why the OmniRemote doesn't include such a list of codes is beyond me. The OmniRemote is only a wise buy if you already have all your remotes and you don't want to keep any of them on your coffee table.
