5.0 out of 5 stars Great cart and good value
I bought this carrier as a gift for my friend who owns a house across the street from a lake. Before having a cart, she had to wait to have someone else around to help her get her kayak across the street and into the lake. She has a large 2 man sit on top. I was concerned about the wheels being satisfactory because the lake is surrounded by sandy beach. She was able...

3.0 out of 5 stars cable routing wrong
When I received the product it was obvious the cable routing was wrong. There are no clear pictures of the cable routing and attachment and no mention of a cable in the supplied assembly, operating and safety instructions. The wheels made it through the sand just fine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Pacific Outdoors Kayak and Canoe Carrier (Sports)
I recently bought a Adventure 14 Mad River canoe and needed a way to get it to the water other than carrying it. It weights 75lbs. This carrier works really well and makes the job much easier. Great storage capabilities also because it folds up neatly. It is made of aluminum (weather risistant) and is very sturdy. It takes a little practice getting it loaded, but once you learn, it's easy.

I have used this as a Kayak carrier for my Ocean Kayak (13 1/4 feet long and 65 pounds). It work fine for the money. The tires are nice (tubes).

5.0 out of 5 stars carries the canoe load, May 5, 2008

Don't know how I did without it. Makes the haul to take-out and put-in from and to the parking areas easy. Very easy to attach and certainly rugged enough for all the terrain and surfaces I have encountered. So well is the balance it is a one hand operation to move the canoe anwhere. It is small enough when folded and the wheels are removed (that is easy) to take on board in case you need to portage while enroute. My wife use to do 50% of the hauling on our canoe trips and now is free to smell the flowers and supervise. She really likes this carrier. Easily worth the reasonable price.

The box it was shipped in was torn and damaged but luckily all the parts were still in the box.

4.0 out of 5 stars quality control needed, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Pacific Outdoors Kayak and Canoe Carrier (Sports)
Product was shipped in a badly broken box with parts missing. Ultimately (and willingly)resolved by Amazon and Pacific Outdoors, but it would have been nice for them to do it right the first time. Also, the addition of a cable, which I suspect was motivated by the fabric strap not being sturdy enough, is not represented in the pictures of the product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flat land only, August 13, 2008
This review is from: Pacific Outdoors Kayak and Canoe Carrier (Sports)
Works fine on flat land - impossible on an incline (heading uphill) as it kept collapsing while trying to load the canoe (14'); seems kick stand is way too short. I ended up having to use an old Helly Hansen roller to get the canoe to the flat, then the carrier was fine. In hindsight I should have gotten a sturdier model due to the circumstances.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Ideal Cart for Inflatable Kayaks, December 20, 2008
This review is from: Pacific Outdoors Kayak and Canoe Carrier (Sports)
The Pacific Outdoors Kayak and Canoe Carrier arrived on time, in perfect condition. I was apprehensive while waiting for it to arrive given the low price. However, that concern was wasted. It's a solid piece of equipment, well engineered. Simple in design -- in the good sense.

I've used the cart 12 times to carry my inflatable kayak from my parked car to the put-in site on the water. None of those ventures have been over rough ground. Usually a combination of concrete and flat grass. So I can't comment on how the cart would perform over rough terrain.

But it's been ideal for my purposes. I inflate my Advanced Elements Expedition kayak beside the car, load it with safety equipment, water, lunch, camping gear, and so on. Then slip the Pacific Outdoors cart under the rear of the kayak, just behind the cockpit. The key is to have the wheels as close to straight forward as possible. Then use one of the long black straps provided to go over the kayak, and around the frame of the cart on each side. It's important to cinch down the straps so the kayak is firmly attached to the cart.

Once at the put-in site, I remove the wheels from the cart with the simple-but-effective fasteners and stow both wheels behind the cockpit of the kayak. The cart frame then fits nicely on the rear of the boat where I cinch it down with bungee cord.

Fearing I would lose one or both of the fasteners for the wheels, I telephoned Pacific Outdoors to buy an extra pair. They were most accommodating, and even sent the extra pair free of charge! A surprise.

I therefore highly recommend this inexpensive but sturdy cart to others who have inflatable kayaks that are just a bit too heavy to carry in a bag from the car to the put-in site.

4.0 out of 5 stars Canoe Carrier (Hauler), August 11, 2008
This review is from: Pacific Outdoors Kayak and Canoe Carrier (Sports)
The canoe carrier worked great. I live around 200 yards from our lake and had to load the canoe in the back of my van to get to the water. Now I just grab the end of the canoe with one hand and walk to the lake. Loading and unloading is a snap. The only problem was, I had to improvise with the straps provided because my canoe is too wide to use the straps as instructed. Love it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless for kayaks, April 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pacific Outdoors Kayak and Canoe Carrier (Sports)
I bought this for my Malibu Stealth 12 Kayak and the first time I used it was disappointing. The thick wire strap that loops over it is a hindrance and doesn't allow the cart to open fully. I took it off because it kept collapsing because it was too narrow. It also is useless for any kayak that has a V shaped keel as a lot of them do. The crossbar's vee isn't deep enough for the pads to securely support the sides of the kayak. The V shaped hull of kayaks with a keel will not get the support needed - keeps tipping to one side while pulling no matter how tight the straps are. This may be better suited to a canoe with a short keel. Will now be getting the Scupper Pup which fits into the scupper holes for a very secure fit. Tried to save some cash but as the saying goes... You get what you pay for..
